    I’m glad I could help.

It looks like you added the original polygon selection to the “Selection” window of the tentacles’ material. That is what is restricting the texture to those polygons. Only use the second selection tag with the body’s material. Clear the selection window of the RS Material and that should fix it. If not, upload your project file and I will take a look at it.

    1) Double click on the Virus’ selection tag and then “Invert” the selection. This will select the body of the virus.

    2) Deselect and reselect the Virus object so that the original tag is unselected (otherwise you will replace its selection).

    3) “Set Selection” to create a new tag and rename it (i.e. “Body Selection”) for ease of reference.

    4) Add the new tag to the “Selection” window of the material for the body.

    5) In the Object menu place the material for the extruded segments to the left of the material for the body of the virus.

Check out this free plugin from Nitro4d.

I know that it works in R19, but if you have R20 or newer I’m not sure that it does.

  • Hi Mike,

Since you said that you were new to C4D, my initial impression was that you were overcomplicating what you wanted to do, which I thought was simply setting up a scene to view your panoramic image “in the round.” I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. I have never tried what your further explanation describes, so when I have more time I will try to play around with camera projections and see what I find. Could you upload your current project file so that I and others could see where you’re at currently? In the meantime, perhaps someone with more experience with camera projection will provide some input.

    Good luck with the project.

  • Create a cylinder with dimensions matching the resolution of your image, turn off caps, and apply a material to the cylinder with your panoramic image added as a texture in the material’s Color channel (disable Reflectance or the image will look washed out). Set the Material Tag’s Projection to “UVW Mapping,” and set Side to “Both” or “Back” since the camera will be on the inside of the cylinder. And since the camera will be looking at the back of the image, enable Tile, and set the Length U to -100% to reverse the image so that it looks correct.

Add a camera, zero out its position coordinates to place it in the center of the cylinder, and adjust its Field of View (Vertical) to fill the render area vertically. You can then animate the camera’s H rotation (Coordinates) to “pan” left and right as desired.

You can make whatever changes you would like in the Camera Object settings, either by selecting a wider lens, or adjusting field of view directly.

Thanks for the follow-up Theo. Some good info there.

I have no experience with NAS, but have you tried Render Garden? Many people have found it very useful.
