I am able to render a TurbulenceFD project with smoke as a QT movie file using Animation and Straight Alpha which can be composited in AE. When you bring it into AE how does your movie look when toggling the Transparency Grid on?

Here’s what mine looks like by itself and with the Transparency Grid:

In R17 you no longer need to use a modifier key when clicking the keyframe circle, as clicking it alone is sufficient, but when I try it, it works either way. Have you tried using the Record Active Object button beneath the View window (Circle with a key in it – shortcut F9) or turning on Autokeying (the next button over – shortcut CMD F9)?

Unless there are some differences between Lite and the full version, what you’re doing should work. But if none of the above allow you to add keyframes perhaps you should try reinstalling R17 Lite, or send a support question to Maxon.

    Good luck.

Can you share your C4D project file?

March 28, 2016 at 2:56 pm in reply to: Memory upgrade for new iMac 5K

As long as you install the memory in matched pairs there is no performance difference as far as I know. But while the 16GB sticks are more expensive you would be able to keep your stock 4GB sticks in place for a total of 40GB (assuming your iMac is the latest and able to use 64GB). Adding the four 8GB sticks would force you to remove the two stock sticks, and if you ever want to max out your memory later (again, assuming 64GB max) it would be cheaper to go with 16GB sticks now and add two more later.

You can turn the object’s visibility off and on in the editor and for rendering by clicking on the “traffic lights” (the two little circles to the right) in the object menu, or by the appropriate selection in the Basic tab of the object’s Attributes menu:

    Visible in Editor
    Visible in Renderer

Personally, I think the image looks very nice. I would expect to see some distortion (bulginess) when looking through glass. If you want no distortion you need to set the Refraction to 1.0 in the Transparency channel of your glass material, but then it will be an inaccurate image, though one you may be going for.

Yes, there are many. Red Giant’s Magic Bullet Looks comes to mind, but there are several others depending upon which version of Final Cut you are using. There are also many online tutorials which cover using the built-in effects to achieve the same thing with a little more work. Google is your friend.

  • Ok, I’ll watch for it.

  • Josh,

It’s hard to see the details in the image. Perhaps you could attach your project file so that others could find it easier to help.
