You are right, and I have done just that.

I think I understand what you’re hoping to do, but as far as I know there is no way to have any Adobe product give you a preview of the effect as you mouse over them in a selection window. This is one place (among many) where Adobe is behind the times in functionality and ease of use.
Unlike in Photoshop (and After Effects), where you must similarly apply a blending mode before seeing its affect on your image, Affinity Photo gives you a preview of the effect as you mouse over the options in the mode window, which certainly makes using the program quicker and easier to use. We can only hope that Adobe starts learning from its competitors rather than always assuming that it sets the standard.

I don’t use Broadcast, but according to Maxon’s comparison chart it only supports rigid body dynamics for MoGraph objects.

In reference to Adam’s response, the Teleport object is interfering with the render.

In your posted image the sudden focus change of the background objects appears to be occurring laterally, rather than by distance, which would mean that it is an issue with something other than depth of field. If it was a matter of DOF the clouds would all be equally out of focus, but the ones on the right are sharper than those on the left. The same goes for the buildings/blocks.
Could you post your project file, or a simplified version of it that gives the same result?
Edit: I didn’t see the previous responses until I posted mine.

According to the link below, ProRender is not available in Cineware:

January 17, 2018 at 7:18 pm in reply to: VERY basic question (from a C4D complete novice). Apologies. In looking at the image from your second message, where you have all the settings checked on, you should not only have Projection displayed but many other ones (camera, frame, grid spacing, etc.). Some of them wouldn’t show because there are no objects in the scene, but it’s not just Projection that is missing, so there is definitely something odd going on.
I hope you can get it sorted out.

January 17, 2018 at 4:31 pm in reply to: VERY basic question (from a C4D complete novice). Apologies.I’m glad to help, but I am at a loss as to what is causing your issue since that scene file should have made the settings necessary to give you the HUD display. Again, you may want to contact Maxon support, especially since you have already tried a reinstall (which should have given you default settings.)
If I think of anything else I will follow-up later.
Good luck.

January 17, 2018 at 3:19 pm in reply to: VERY basic question (from a C4D complete novice). Apologies. Here is a tutorial that explains the concept behind a new.c4d scene file. I uploaded one that has the Viewport “Filter” menu, and the view settings that Brian mentioned, set up to display what you seem to be missing. If you can open it, and you don’t see the window labels displayed (Perspective, Top, etc.) then I would suggest contacting Maxon support for further help.
