Terje,
My point was that having to read and write from the Raid 0 drives would slow down the rendering speed. -
Thanks for all the great responses. However, wouldn’t it be best to put captured AVI files on a non Raid 0 drive? When rendering with those files aren’t they being read? It seems that the Raid drives should only be doing the writing for maximum speed.
Because of the risk of lost data on the Raid drives I would think they would only be used to write the rendered files to because of the speed increase and not store any other files on them. Even the rendered files could be transferred to another drive after the rendering was complete.
Does anyone know the percentage of speed increase when using Raid 0 VS a non Raid drive? -
I have done some research and testing to find what I consider the best solution for blank DVD. I have been using Verbatim DVDs for several years now and have never burned a coaster or found a problem with any DVD player reading them. I started with 8x and then moved up to 16x. I always burn at the maximum speed because it

Gary,
I had the master bus set to stereo to begin with and rendered it that way and not as surround sound. -
Sorry for the slow response, Terje. Thanks for the very detailed information. I really appreciate it. I’m sure others will benefit from it as well. I will do the test as you suggested.

Gary,
I didn’t time it but it made a noticeable difference of 2 to 3 times faster. I’m just not positive this was the only thing that changed at the time. My computer may have been processing slower for some other reason that was corrected by my maintenance updates. That’s why I was asking about whether this was logical. Is this setting related to the number of threads your processor can process at one time? I don’t fully understand the relationship here. Can you explain in more detail? -
What I’ve been emphasizing is that you don’t have to do any of the multiplying or resizing you just described above. Simply scan your photo into Photoshop, color correct, reduce the image size if desired but constrain proportions and then save it as a png or tiff file. Don’t resize it to 655 x 480. Open in Vegas and use as is. It worked with my circle image.

I use a JVC SuperVHS VCR for my transfers. It has s-video out and a built in TBC. JVC VCRs are said to be very good at showing a clean video, so far I have found this to be true.

Both Photoshop and Vegas have settings to automatically correct for the difference in pixel aspect ratio between CCIR 601 TV pixels (.909) and computer pixels (1.0)
I have to ask… where in Photoshop and Vegas are those settings?

“As long as you match output aspect”
Thanks for the confirmation.
The circle in the photo I mentioned above is round regardless of whether I “match output aspect” or not. That function will fill the screen with the photo if it is smaller than the screen but doesn’t affect the actual shape of the photo.
