This is not good news…I’m about to inherit an ASUS A8NSLi with an AMD dual core proc and I’ve bought 4GB RAM for it, on the advice of Steve Forde from Gridiron (Nucleo)…but you say this mobo won’t even SEE 4GB?

I know AE won’t use more than 2GB in XP32, but I wanted the extra 2GB for Photoshop, Premiere and Nucleo instances..plus a bit for PCIe blackhole..hopefully leaving a full 2GB exclusively for AE.

    Have I got this wrong?

I don’t really dablle in 3D myself..but I understand Cinema4D has a similar tight integration with AE (multiple embedded passes, etc. and ability to export camera data to AE. I *think* There is something called Max2AE aswell which might bring 3DS Max and AE together…search the COW for Max/AE, etc..?

    Hi Kristian,

UPDATE – I got the signal to stop jumping by changing in the preferences to 1:1 progressive display, so now I can get a picture. But unfortunately when I select 16:9 I lose a load of the image off the sides at 2 x size..is there no way to make the HDLink scale it *down* in the Y height to letterbox it instead? Viewing x1 SD on a 20″ monitor is tiny.

I know this is a primarily geared HD product, but I am desperate to make this work! I am away as of monday and need to leave a working Paintbox behind for my cover!

Can I put a feature request in for the next update of HDLink utility? To allow 16:9 scaling in EITHER Leeterbox OR horizontal scaling!? That might make the difference bwetwen me keeping the box or having to send it back. 🙁

You’ll need Nucleo or AE CS3 to use all your RAM/procs. I think on some simple tasks in AE even then your cores/RAM isn’t totally utilised. And yes, your OS and other apps need a healthy chunk of RAM aswell.

My monitor only handles 1600×1200 – maybe that is it? But I should be able to see 1 x SD footage at the very least. That said though 2 x 720 = 1440 pixels, which is well shy of 1600.

Gonna try some diff inputs and older firmware and see what happens. Haven’t got time to send back and wait for a new one unfortunately. I need this working by end of tomorrow!

    arrgghh.

Apparently rendering with AE minimised is even more productive..not sure how true that is but worth a go.

One thing you dcould do to determine what is taking so long is set a 1/4 res render going draft or something and then twirl down the ‘currnet render detials’ bit and see which effects/processes AE hangs on as it renders thourgh the comp.

Nucleo will maximise your system of course if you have multi procs and squeeze all your RAM out, but also dead easy to pre-render with too.

Oh arse…the HDLink will only ‘work’ (i.e: display anything AT ALL) when the monitor’s last config on the pc is 1600×1200 – which means an SD signal is either absolutely tiny, or way bigger than screen size at 2x size…but it’s still tearing and out of sync regardless. It’s the same input as I use for my decklink and that syncs up just fine.

I’ve got latest firmware and Utility app installed off the BMD website already and no joy. I’m really loathed to go through every single driver version on their site incase something else works. I spent most of last week doing that to get my Decklink working!

Why is nothing ever simple!?! I fear I may have wasted

They’re pretty much the same I think..only thing I’d mention is that apparently the Xena doesn’t support Windows x64.

Anyone in the know what’d be best for my situation?:

    https://www.lektropacks.com/view_product_standard.php?product=104&department=2&sub1=17&show=56

Only thing with this is that looks like the only way to RGB into it is via a scart (presuably with somesort of dodgy phono component>scart converter bolted on aswell…and not sure if this only outputs square pixels?

    HELP!
