Preset templates are built into AE. Just press Command (or Control) + N, which brings up the Composition Settings window. Then under the “Basic” tab, you’ll see “Preset:” and a drop-down preset selector. Just choose HD – 1920×1080 – 24 fps.

  • Sometimes the pixels we’re tracking disappear partially from view and we have to pick up on another area to track. For example, if we’re tracking a car that drives behind a pole, the pixels we’re tracking are blocked. This calls for multipart tracking.

The basic idea behind multipart tracking is that we select another area to track, without interrupting the track or moving the attach point.

Adobe has a help page dedicated to Tracking and stabilizing motion. Here’s the part that shows the subtle differences in how the selection tool appears when moving various parts of the track point.

For basic pinning, this tutorial sums it up:

January 26, 2021 at 4:06 pm in reply to: How do I add gradient to multiple letters

Select the layer and then look under Effects -> Generate -> Gradient Ramp. You can even animate it (much better than a plain old gradient.

  • Well the i9 10 core appears to have the processing advantage- and the more memory the better. For graphics and storage I’m now a fan of NOT putting it all into one box (your iMac). One-box solutions are hard to update and costly.

I’ve been editing/doing AE work with my 2018 MacBook Pro i9 6 core / pro vega 20 (in clamshell mode diving 3 external monitors) with an external graphics processing unit (eGPU) connected and external SSD storage. It really screams along and AE & Premiere work great with the eGPU.

So if you can swing it, sure get the maxed out iMac- but if you want to add more graphics processing power- consider using a thunderbolt-connected eGPU.

October 26, 2010 at 2:46 am in reply to: reflecting tube / telescope?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it might be something better done in a 3D environment, but it ought to be possible in AE. I’ve come close. BTW The sides of the object are not important. Think about looking into a telescope at the moon. We can’t see the dark side, or beyond the edge- just the image captured by the lens at the end of our scope, which is reflected slightly on the walls of the tube. Best- JK

Oh yes- you asked about the drive they are on. They are on an internal SATA dedicated to media, but I get the same result from my RAID.

February 4, 2010 at 8:52 pm in reply to: ProResHQ sequence question

Hi Shane – Yes, when I play them from my viewer through the Kona LHi they look and sound perfect. But when I insert them into a matching sequence, FCP tells me they need to be rendered.

FWIW When I change my sequence’s RT render settings to “unlimited” they do play back in real time but with the orange render bar, so they still need to be rendered.

I’ve left a message with AJA tech support and will share the solution when/if it finally comes.

    Thanks

Thanks for asking. Here are a few jpegs. Please note that I’ve tried just the video (without audio). So it’s somewhere in my video settings (or a bug). Many thanks
