Looks like they used distortion filters to offset pixels, blurred and warped pixels, cropped the image, and used various composite modes to superimpose frame edges and film effects.
If you have a video clip that you want to emulate, study it frame by frame.

Are you working in 8-bit, 16-bit or float color in the project?

Check your parameter inspector settings such as scale, opacity, composite mode, position, etc.
Check the media tab to make sure the clip is still listed and make sure the clip is actually where it should be in Finder.
Make sure that the clip duration bar in the timeline indicates that the clip should be visible.

Keyframe the opacity property from 100% to 0% and back to make the layers visible/invisible. If you want them to blink, make them HOLD keyframes.

FCP 5.1.3 broke a lot of plug-ins.
5.1.4 has apparently fixed them.

Why export? Why not just send the sequence or clips from it to Motion?
