You need to select the white background with the eyedropper tool (set to non-contiguous).
Save the selection.
Open the other image you want to use instead of the white.
Select all of the pixels in the new image.
Select the notation image and do a PASTE INTO SELECTION.

Make a selection of the pixels you want the alpha channel to display.
Save the selection to a new channel and don’t give it a name.
Done.

TT is from Fontlab, the folks who make the professional font creation programs Fontlab Studio and Fontographer (which they bought from Macromedia). They know what they’re doing when it comes to fonts.

As Walter mentioned. both cards are equivalent in terms of performance but not functionality.
Choose the nVidia if you want to drive 2 30″ Cinema Displays or want to go up to 4096×4096 pixel projects. Downside is that it takes up two slots so it limits PCI card expansion, and it is more expensive than the ATI.
Go with the ATI x800 if you need PCI slots or want to drive an older Cinema Display (that uses the older rounded ADC connector, not the newer DVI connector). The ATI is also a little less expensive.

You might try selecting the empty pixels, invert the selection, contract the selection a pixel at a time and delete more edge pixels.

Have the printer download the CS2 tryout and use it until his update arrives.
You might also try putting each card in a separate file.
