Font conversion for FCP…anyone use TransType Pro?
One thing that has always bothered me with Final Cut Pro is that it will not use PostScript fonts, of which our company has many. They show up just fine in Photoshop, but are gone in FCP’s text generator and Title3D.
Our present work around is, if we need to use a certain font that happens to be PostScript, we go into Photoshop to create the grafix. Now, I’ll be the first to say that Photoshop is a VERY useful program and very powerful. But I feel that it is unnecessary and more time consuming to use than creating (basic) text grafix in FCP. If the client has changes to the grafix (which happens sometimes 😉 right?), to me, it is SO MUCH easier to double-click the text on the timeline, make the change, and re-render…versus..Opening up Photoshop, opening the correct photoshop grafix file (wait, is it in Titles-rev01.psd or Titles-rev02.psd…etc..) make the change, save out yet another rev version, import into photoshop, open the grafix, replace the old, and re-render. (FYI, I don’t use the Open in Editor feature from the timeline because, in our experience, making a change to the original file almost always messes up all the other graphic layers in the file, distorts them, requires you to re-render ALL the text layers in that file, instead of just the one you needed to change. Anyone else experience this?)
Also, by creating the text in FCP, it stays with the project file, and it’s one less set of assets that you must keep track of, make sure you back up, etc. It just seems much simplier. So, question 1, do you agree with this assesment?
In my effort to find out how to make all fonts work in FCP, I found info in the FCP manual (do a search for TrueType fonts) that says in black and white, “All of Final Cut Pro
