Bill, I’m pretty sure this is what happened: you made a point and no one else got it.
It’s OK, you make a lot of points.
Statistically, some of them are bound to be less than resonant. -
Aside from the fact that the singer has a nice voice, the overall performance is as average as bar musicians get, horrible acoustic tone, no bass tone to speak of and no serious playing chops.
Yeah, I’m a singer, player, producer, but like most of us I spent years performing. I know a lot of guys playing similar small venues that could cop the original sound with the same minimal setup.
I get your basic point, but this is hardly an exemplary example of what two or three musicians can do with todays technology.
What I can say is that when I was producing music for TV and radio twenty years ago, I needed a very big studio, with miles of cabling and racks and racks of very expensive gear. Today my home studio consists of a 27″ iMac, and a Focusrite input device. Everything else exists within Digital Performer or other supporting applications and plug-ins.
The only thing that’s the same from the “old days” are the guitars surrounding me, my baby grand/midi keyboard, and a pair of Neumann microphones.
It’s almost identical to how my TV/film studio has evolved since then, except my input devices – cameras – unlike musical instruments and mics, continue to change as quickly as the surrounding studio gear.

I think that’s the most salient point of the whole announcement – they’ve ended the “we pros have been been abandoned by Apple” line of thinking and created a whole new commitment . Personally and professionally I think it’s great. I also think it was good to make the commitment to FCPX that we did.
I’m thinking it will all come together in this next year.Professionally speaking.

I like everything I see so far.
I can’t imagine it will have 8 GB of RAM soldered to the board, and price is still unknown but I’m betting this is a well thought out environment that’s been in development along with FCPX for a while now. -
[David Mathis] ” Why does this “thing” look like something of a Star Trek movie? “
Does it?
It looks like a pretty common shape to me…like you find in every drawing program and shelf and fridge.
Basically you can go circular, square, rectangular or cylindrical. I’m guessing they put a bit of thought into it. I suppose it could have been triangular for effect. What would you have a new evolution of Mac computer designed in 2013 look like, your 20 year-old Quadra?

[Gary Huff] “So engineers are always smarter than the customers? Or only Apple engineers?
“If your asking about their knowledge of the hardware that creative, producers use – then yes, it would be eminently logical to suggest that hardware engineers know more about hardware engineering than the people who use their finished products. The same goes for architects, rocket scientists etc.
As far as Apple engineers, also yes. I think it’s an intelligent suggestion that the wealthiest corporation in the world with the highest profile regarding computer and device innovation, have above average engineers on board. I think Apple engineers have a pretty high bar to reach in order to work there.
I would trust them to design a great computer a lot more than I would, say, you .

I saw that as I read down Joe.
After going to the site I have to say, it just screams Apple…as they’ve been since I’ve known them.Obviously the proof will be in the performance, but I have to say, they continue to push boundaries in concept and design. I’m not weighing into the differences in components that others here are much more qualified to opine on, but from an overall approach, they’ve got my attention.
Here’s my guess. They’ve been at this design and FCPX development in parallel. I think FCP 10.2 will have a lot of serious feature additions/refinements and that it will be promoted as fully optimized for the new MP architecture and that the new MP will be promoted the same way, re FCPX.
I think they plan to sell a lot of MPs specifically around FCPX, and probably Motion, and to use the MP as a “next generation computer for the new generation of professional editing”. It’s their MO. A lot of people will see the MP/FCPX/Motion combo as a really attractive creative environment. And others will see the more traditional, internally configurable tower as preferable and continue to move the other way.
I’ve got a number of maxed out iMacs running wonderfully here but this has definitely got my attention.

[Joseph W. Bourke] ” it’s small – way too small…calling anything slightly larger than a beer can “Pro” smacks of arrogance.”
Really?
What does size have to do with power and innovation? Of all the things to question, size seems a bit irrelevant in 2013. -
[Bret Williams] “Way to patent the suckiest part of FCP.
“Yeah, how about patenting the spinning beach ball.

[TImothy Auld] “It’s really quite simple to open your phone case. You just need a spudger. But I’ve found that closing it again usually requires a sixteen pound sledgehammer.
“Which apparently is why my reception has been so bad.
