Timecodes were synched on cams at shoot. I captured both clips using the exact same settings. Then I made them a multiclip using timecode to sync. I did not load them into the timeline until this had been done. Yes, frame rates identical.
In the meantime I loaded another interview shot with the same cams, same capture settings and it is running fine.
The only thing I can think of is there was a drop frame warning during the capture of one of the tapes… I think that must be the culprit, so I am going to recapture both clips NDF and see if that fixes it.
Will report back.
Thanks Kevin.

I have been limping along doing manual presets rather than freerun… and iit works but man can I see why the freerun is recommended… nobody responded to this one above… which is unusual… perhaps it got missed? Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Hi Noah,
I’m using FCP7 and want to be extra-sure I’ve got the settings right because I think the user interface may have changed slightly since most of these posts were written.
-DVX shoot pre-set: 24pa
-Capture preset: DV NTSC (2:3:2:3) pulldown removal
-Device control pre-set: DV NTSC firewire
-Sequence preset: 23.98I can’t see anywhere in FCP7 to “set” a 29.98 ingest/capture… other than assuming NTSC firewire takes care of it… Hope i’m not wrong. Can you confirm?
BTW I’m sure your eyes must roll every time you see another DVX 100 24p question… Thank you on behalf of dvx newbies everywhere for sticking with us!

Thanks Michael… at first I thought this was not the cause… I selected everything and did a command R… It said writing vid… Still had problem! BUT, when I output the vid using QT Conversion… (during which the whole timeline goes red suggesting it will be rendered in the process) it came out fine and no blurring at all. Thanks. Am I not rendering in the program correctly? Is there a better command? Or is this something you just live with till you output?

Good thought Dave… But no, they were both set to non-drop frame.

When interview was shot camera broke for commercials sometimes and ran through others… so synching up numerous breaks and editing out commercials… then doing some motion work to simulate close-ups, etc.
on top of that there seems to be some difference in the clock of the audio capture device, for reasons covered in an earlier post it was not done with the camera… audio pulls ahead 5 frames or so every 10 minutes…. i’ve got the sound basics but am just wondering if there are any tricks to quickly lip synching around this… how do you best make up the missing frames? Do I just find an earlier point and bump the sound back? It works sort of but does not seem precise… a lot of time used eyeing it up…
I have not done a lot of it, so any technique to help me get it bang-on quick would be of help.
Thanks,
jb

Thanks Raphael…
One point I’ll add for future newcomers is that you don’t need to hunt for a file converter… Just setup your import preferences in itunes preferences and then it will just be a right click on the file and select to create the aaif. Easy.

Something i forgot to mention was the audio being added to the vid in the timeline is an external dialog recording which is in mp3 format. Whereas it originally played with dropped frames, now I get the redline everytime I drop it in… Thoughts? I have heard fcp doesn’t like mp3s… is this true? seems odd… Thanks, jb

In regards to your comment on multicam editing… I have two dvx100b’s and am planning on multicam shooting and editing in FCP. Does your comment to mean that I will definitely need an eSata drive (or some other highspeed storage)?
Is there something about multicam that requires more disk throughput in editing? Do you not just end up with two video/four audio tracks after ingest? Forgive me that I haven’t tried it yet… Can you elaborate a bit?
Thanks,
JB

Thanks for the tips… In regards to settings, I can look up sequence settings easy enough but when I click on clip settings in the modify menu it returns a msg that says `No items have files that are applicable to this operation.”
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
