Thanks Walter.
LOTS of looks I’d like to be able to match using only curves. Here are 3 that spring to mind!
1-old Kodachrome from Library of Congress (I tried all the film presets in Color Finesse but none come even close)

here’s 1 favorite

love the look of a few of these Canon picture style presets
here’s 2 I really like

https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevin32832/5097430548/in/set-72157625199074416/I’m pretty sure its possible to approximate these looks using RGB curves only, but I could be wrong.
Perhaps in conjunction with another effect or setting in Color Finesse?Local is the new global

Was under the impression that you could use LUTs for color curve presets, to save certain looks.
There are certain looks I am trying to match using curves but having a difficult time.

Thanks Walter
I entirely relate to that and understand…EXACTLY why I want to avoid things like MBLooks for any grading…too easy and I think a LOT more you can achieve if you really master use of things like CFinesse and rgb curves, in combination with adjustment layers and blend modes.
Going thru 1 of Steve’s tutorials right now…Local is the new global

So does this mean PPro automatically works in a 32 bit color space the moment you apply a 32bit effect?
And wouldn’t some slight dithering noise be a good first step to reduce banding?Local is the new global

June 29, 2011 at 12:34 pm in reply to: Editing in Higher Bit depths or maximizing 8bit H.264 qualityUsing the Saturation slider in the ColorBalance HLS effect seems to give VERY poor results.
If instead I boost the saturation the same amount using Magic Bullet Looks I see none of these artifacts. Why??Local is the new global

June 28, 2011 at 2:39 am in reply to: The Future is an iMac, Thunderbolt Storage, FCP-X and a DSLRAs for FCPX being the panacea for all DSLR shooters I’m not so sure. In addition to the gads of missing features blogged about ad nauseum elsewhere, what about support for basic RGB custom curves or LUT import, to correct those flat picture profiles we need in order to extract the most out of the H.264 codec?

Anyone know if there is a purchase window after which Apple will no longer honor your refund?
ie if I wait more than a couple days to make my decision…will it be too late?Local is the new global

Thanks for all the replies. Anyone care to comment on the particle emitter and how it compares to AE plugins like Trapcode’s Particular?
