I agree that doing the text in AE (or even Photoshop) would solve this particular problem.

But it mystifies me why I can’t use the titler output in other Adobe applications. And why isn’t there even an error message? I’m sure I am not the only one to have asked for the ability to use the titler’s output in AE several times over the years.

My guess it that big-A bought the titler from someone and did not negotiate the ability to use it elsewhere.

My guess is that you are using the Titler built into Premiere.

While I’ve never seen any explanation as to why, titles created in the Titler do not translate to any other Adobe product. I don’t think it generates an error message either.

I usually put a copy of the footage underneath the original and offset it by several pixels, then blur it slightly. It is relatively easy to ‘cut a hole’ in the original at the location of the dead pixel because it is pure white.

Since the original moves around, you’ll need to somehow track the offending pixel.

I don’t have Denoiser II. You might want to try After Effects’ built-in effect Noise & Grain (Effects > Noise & Grain > Remove Grain.) It has been around for some time and works pretty well to remove noise in dark areas. The biggest complaint is that it is slow and not very intuitive to use.

My favorite tool for noise removal is Neat Video, but I understand your reluctance to buy another plug-in.

Denoiser II is from Red Giant, IIRC – they usually have some very good tutorials on their products, which also might help.

Thanks for your response. The monitor is connected via firewire, but I have updated the drivers for the nVidia card anyway. Windows says the firewire driver is current. Still no video out for AE.

Poking around on Adobe forums shows I am not the only one having the problem, but it doesn’t seem widespread.

I’ll post whatever I find back here.

Thanks for the response. I tried trashing preferences, then tried that again plus purging all. Still won’t display anything.

AE6 will display, Premiere Pro displays, just no AE CC2015. I am assuming some config error on my part, but I’v tried all the combinations of “always preview” and “primary viewer.” Plus mercury transport in the preferences choices, where the only option is Adobe DV.

Other ideas?

BTW – the “can’t live without” plugins will depend on what you are doing with AE. So if you are big on motion graphics you might need something other than a color-grading plug-in or a noise reduction plug. If you’re doing lots a titles or lower-thirds, then you might want something there, etc.

Looks a lot like some of the Digital Juice animations.

They’ve changed to a subscription model for their products, so I’m not sure whether you can get just one or two of their products.

You can probably accomplish it by setting up 3 effects – I’d use an adjustment layer:

Channel Combiner1 set RGB to YUV

Curves Effects
RGB= don’t use
Red = Y
Green = U
Blue = V

Channel Combiner2 set YUV to RGB

Another idea, Synthetic Aperture Color Finesse is a color correction tool that comes with AE. It can manipulate colors using YCbCr notation. which is for most purposes the same as YUV.
