I am having exactly the same problem.

60Hz hum removal masterfully eliminates the hum of a vending machine/fridge but adds an echo to the voice of the person who is speaking.

    Sound is definitely an echo.

    Using FCPX 10.4.5

I have had my a6500 for a month now and I agree with everything that was said here. Except I would add that while you can use a USB power bank (and I do) to supplement the battery power, you still have to leave the original battery in…so I don’t know if it helps with overheating too much. However you can use a dummy battery and a larger battery adapter though, and I hear that helps with overheating and the bigger issue of battery life (and you can also power an external monitor and whatever else too). You just have to make room on your rig for all that.

I haven’t had any overheating issues yet, but I can confirm that the rolling shutter can be quite bad at times. The three times I’ve followed someone while I’m walking without using any kind of stabilization there’s been some noticeable jello activity (and not just with vertical lines).

Oh and something else you have to adjust to is not having a headphone jack. I got around it with a Beachtek pre-amp (which also solved another issue of using two mics and controlling their recording volume…without having to go double-system).

  • Hey Duncan!

That’s what I’ve been doing too, a bit of a PITA as you say. Have you found a solution in the last couple weeks?

  • Of course! Sorry, haven’t been using FCPX for very long, forgot about the ‘Used Media’ filtering option. Thanks so much!!

  • Thanks Bret. Just to clarify though, there’s no way to ‘batch-transcode’ ONLY those clips which I have included on a project timeline (instead of transcoding all the clips in the event, which in this case are many).

August 10, 2015 at 4:57 pm in reply to: Changing Attributes in Multiple Text Clips

Thank you Andreas for the great explanation.

One quirky thing happened though. On all text (in my case subtitles), that the “batch font change” (we can call it) was executed, in other words all subs imported as an .xml, I am no longer able to modify them.

    It’s wild.

I can go into ‘Controls’ and edit the text, size, whatever, but the changes are never reflected in either the ‘Video’ tab or the ‘Canvas’.

I can save, shut off the computer, turn it back on, re-open FCP and the project, and the text edits I made in the ‘Controls’ tab will still be there…and the ‘Video’ and ‘Canvas’ will still show the orginal text pre-edit (that was imported as .xml).

Tried trashing prefs, opening a new project and copying them in, everything I could think of.

Worth mentioning that all subs that I didn’t import as .xml are functioning fine.

    Any thoughts?

July 29, 2014 at 4:15 pm in reply to: Intel HD Graphics 3000 for FCP

Just to clarify, the HD Graphics 3000 is the only Intel processor that does meet the FCP requirements…

    Minimum System Requirements

    – Mac computer with an Intel processor
    – 1GB of RAM (2GB of RAM recommended when working with compressed HD and uncompressed SD sources; 4GB of RAM recommended when working with uncompressed HD sources)
    – ATI or NVIDIA graphics processor. Integrated Intel graphics processors are not supported except the Intel HD Graphics 3000.
    – 128MB of VRAM
    – Display with 1280-by-800 resolution or higher
    – Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later
    – QuickTime 7.6 or later

    source: https://support.apple.com/kb/SP635

But does anyone have experience trying to edit with this? I’m about to invest in a MBA 13″ to do some light editing on the road when I’m away from my Mac Pro.
