Thanks Michael, I really appreciate the advice. So creating a menu via DVDSP isn’t a possibility…That’s just hard to understand that Apple doesn’t provide a method for this when everything seems to be there for a standard disc. I suppose I have a knowledge gap and am filling it publicly : )

I’ll give Toast a try and post again with my success or failure details.

Thanks for the help folks. It’s really great to be able to ask for help, and receive it.

    What???? Really????

OK, The obvious question is… Why not? Heck, it’s DVDSP 4.2.2 and you would think it was already built in!

Anyway, since posting the question I received my download of Squeeze 7. There is an output setting for Blu-ray disc so I’m trying that tonight. It sure seems to have been running a long time.

Anyway, back to DVDSP… I am just shocked, really. So what would I use if Sorenson Squeeze 7 doesn’t do the trick?

    Thanks

August 10, 2009 at 7:24 am in reply to: hardware speed boost – best ROI?

Hi — I just set up my new (drum roll please) Mac Pro, 8 core, 2.23Ghz with 12 meg of ram.

I mention this because like yourself, I have had to deal with really slow rendering speeds using a Mac Pro laptop (2 gig ram). I finally saved up enough for this Mac and really glad I did. I tested it out to see how much faster it would be on an export I commonly perform. The material is HD and set out as an H264 file.

So far I’ve found the normal 18 hours I was waiting turned into 38 minutes. I’m amazed…

I suggest you get a new Mac Pro. For video I suggest the 8 core set up l;ike mine. I couldn’t afford the fastest one made and choose the slower. Still, it is one hellava lot faster than I have ever seen.

    I hope this helps

I just read your post and a few of the answers. We had the same issue for our netcast of an adventure series we’re taping in Peru. We have examples online you might want to take a look at. Sunrise or Markawasi would be good examples. If this looks like what you’re wanting to provide please email me and I’ll provide info of how we did it.

OK, so from what I’ve read by each of you helping me, is that the HVX200 can only be useful (using tape) if I shoot 720/24P… Anything else requires one of the P2 cards.

What about attaching a firewire storage device? Would HD 1080/24P be possible with an external hard drive?

If so, it seems to me this would be a good choice, given the time available is around an hour or so instead of the few minutes the P2 cards provide. Any thoughts about this?

Incidentally, I really appreciate the answers and guidance each of you have provided. Thanks alot!

“…As far as the Quicktime clips, they are all broken down into individual clips due to the FAT 32 limitation of the FS-100 Hard Drive”

FAT 32… Trust me, Mac’s don’t like FAT 32 very much. I lost 400 gig’s of data because of FAT 32.

May 10, 2007 at 7:46 pm in reply to: is this true…AG-HVX200 for 2,100 bucks???

I have spent the last week calling each place I’ve found offering the Panasonic AG-HVX200 at a highly reduced price. It is really a buyer beware situation. I’m astonished at the way I have been treated when I ask for information beyond what I was able to read on the websites.

One of the worst experiences was at Banana Boat Cameras. When asking about what was included with the camera the fellow (who wouldn’t provide his name) told me an answer to my first question which was “Is this in stock”. When I asked again for what was included he yelled at me that he had already answered my question and “Yes, it is in stock!!!” and would I like to order now?

Finally I was hung up on after being placed on hold. I called back…

I was again treated with a violent attitude, this time by a fellow who told me he was a manager. I asked why he and the other fellow were so rude. He told me it was how they were trained (!).

I called the companies headquarters (NYC) and was told (in a whisper) by the girl answering the phone (she was really nice) that there were huge problems with the company, quite a few people were having big problems with never receiving their orders and never getting a refund and that I should really not spend any more time trying to speak with anyone because “…they really don’t care”.

A good deal might be out there, but I still haven’t found it. If someone does I would like to hear about it. For now, I’m still looking. My experience with the 20 or so places I’ve called leads me to believe the internet marketplace is replete with mental cases and thieves waiting like spiders for their next victim.

Be very careful… You really cannot get something for nothing. And if you’re wanting something as pricey and wonderful as the HVX200 it will certainly come – as even our lessons in life – at a price.

    I hope this helps.
