What are your preview settings? With HD you usually have to run Preview – Auto (or a quarter) to get a decent running preview. In Full – Best it will lag. Sometimes you have to go Tools – Build dynamic ram to see you are in sync. In Vegas it is all about the processor speed. It doesn’t use the video card.

One of my good friends is a professional audio guy and he uses Vegas pretty much exclusively — for years.
He recently added Sound Forge 9 because it added Noise Reduction as a built in tool. (I paid $200 for Noise Reduction earlier as a plugin.)

The properties of the clip in PP show that the audio is there. It just does not move to the preview window or timeline. These same clips have always worked before. There seems to be some problem with my installation of PP going bad.

I have an ATI card in one machine that has 2 DVIs out. I use it into an HDMI TV/monitor by using a DVI to HDMI conversion cable and it has worked well for more than a year. The TV switches between TV and PC very easily with the remote.

Spot has often said before that DVDA does NOT render an mpg2 file the same or as well as Vegas.

I recently came across an HD player — the JVC AveLink, $360 at B&H — that works well. It plays WMV files (and they look great), Divx files and regular DVDs (but not uprezed so not so hot). It has a disk player but the best is it has a network connection. With the software that comes with it my notebook becomes the “server” and it will play any size file. It has several outputs – component for HD directly into the projector or TV. Up to 8M bitrate for WMV files. You might want to try that.

Audio sync is always a problem for me, especially with HD. I use the ram preview a lot to check it.

I would expect WMV to badly degrade. You should try a small clip to see if it is acceptable.
