Why doesn’t audio load?
I’m trying to redo a project, importing CineForm 1080p files, 23.976, rendered out in Vegas. Previously, I imported files like these with no problem. Now the files come in but without the audio. I tried toggling the switch on the preview monitor but it doesn’t work, only video is shown. The same files have audio in Vegas. It may just be some button but I can’t find one. Any suggestion would be appreciated. I’m at a loss.

If you select the clip in the project tab and hit the play button next to the icon at the top of the panel it will play out.
If you don’t hear sound, but are supposed to – check the specs next to the little playback window. It will mention if there is audio. If you don’t hear or see that audio is embedded into the clip – it has none.
Retrace your/the steps from exporting in Vegas.Make sure you have selected audio to be part of the export.
Do a test with another codec like DV or uncompressed and compare it to the cineform one.
If the different codec works redo it with the cineform codec but only a sample like 4-5 secs worth. Check that version when you import like I mentioned at the start. If all is good try the whole clip export from Vegas with the cineform codec. It should work if the tests come out right.
If not shave a frame on each end of the exporting clip.

Premiere CS3 cannot import Mpeg 1, layer 3 (Mp3), 64 kbps/44,100 mono, CBR audio. Video shows fine, but Properties shows no audio.
Premiere Elements 4 can. -
The properties of the clip in PP show that the audio is there. It just does not move to the preview window or timeline. These same clips have always worked before. There seems to be some problem with my installation of PP going bad.

It could be Cineform? Roll back a version.

f you’ve got Encore CS3 installed , copy the file ad2ac3dec.dll from the Encore CS3 directory and paste it into the PPro CS3 root directory. Once you restart CS3, you’ll be able to import the file with the audio. This means if you’ve already have a project with the files imported, you’ll need to remove the files from the project and then re-import them, or just start over with a new project.
Eddie, you’re right. PPro doesn’t import files with an AC3 extension, but it did import ac3 audio embedded in mpeg files from DVD camcorders. The ad2mcac3dec.dll that was included in 2.0 allowed those ac3 files to import as stereo (but not 5.1). It looks like that functionality was removed or broken in Premiere Pro CS3, but the functionality still exists in Encore CS3. You can copy the file over from Enc to PPro and get the functionality back. You may end up breaking something else, but it does work to allow the AC3 audio stream in the mpeg file to import.
