    No, not streaming.

    Thanks.

@Dave: That’s probably what I asked for, but it gets lost under the foreground stuff. I always want it RIGHT NOW. But my definition of “NOW” is roughly two weeks long.

@John: I haven’t tried that one. I couldn’t find it. Is that sleek? Old paper?

@Daniel: Yours is probably the winner. And so many options.

@Ivan: I will probably have to start a new thread or two to address your points. This is for video on an ipad. Audio needs to be very high quality. The video, however, despite taking forever to actually produce, is mostly text and as such doesn’t seem to require much in terms of bit depth. There are no pictures of Everest or people. Only a handful of colors cum opacities. I haven’t figured out the whole codec/encoding stuff. Haven’t even begun to really think about it. I actually want an obscure codec as an anti piracy measure. I’ll probably have to put another thread, like I say. Hell, I may want a big bit depth for anti-piracy and for the audio. I may need it for Daniel’s fractal noise metallic background. Thoughts?

    Thanks all.

Thank you Dave for checking in on me. They have moved me out of AE instensive care and the doctor says I should be up and about in four weeks or so.

As for the rounded corners, I still think it is a bug. I don’t see any reason a precomp should be treated differently from a solid when the precomp is just a solid.

As for scaling, it was almost unavoidable. The alternatives would have been more time consuming. There are about 500 diffent masks that all have the same shape. I never imagined that scaling one would be too much for Adobe to handle consistently. (n.b., Nobody took up my questions about this being the vector age in the other thread.)

Anyway, thanks again. I’ve come to terms with AE. I have a half dozen or so workarounds that should get me through.

    Hey John,
Thanks so much for the help. I’m really at wits end here and may need to find and hire an expert to tell me what is going on. I have two different problems. One is in the other thread about rotations and translations. The other is this one with text. It is very simple. I create some 70 pt text. I switch on the 3d box. And then my vector text needs two rows of pixels to transition from black to white. It doesn’t make any sense. You don’t even need a background to see it (although it is easier on the eyes than the checkerboard). You just create some text and click on 3d. You will see it immediately softens as you see in my image above. I have no idea why. I’m not sure I follow your last reply. Because I did create the text perfectly. I created in the minimum number of steps. Do you agree that 3d makes text softer?

It seems to be a very general problem. I’m surprised that there isn’t more discussion of it online. So, if you take a solid layer. Then put some 70pt text. Then zoom in to the pixel level. You will see one pixel transition from text to non-text. But if you make the text 3d, then you will see two pixel transitions from text. Why??

And while it is not that easy for me to zoom in on a rendered .mov, and the pixels don’t show up the same way, I can still see the traces of those two pixel transitions.

Right, OK. I just wanted to make sure that I had it right. Like I say, my cameras do so little, I was trying to figure out whether I need them. And now I think I can answer and say I don’t. There were plans to use them I think but those plans fell by the wayside.

  • Isn’t motion blur really a pixel thing anyway? As isn’t collapsing transformations really a vector thing? So, I probably shouldn’t expect them to get along well together. I guess I was just confused because I did seem to get some motion blur for translations even with collapse transformations ticked. So maybe that is really what needs to be explained–the presence of motion blur with translations despite collapse trans being clicked. That, rather than the absence of motion blur with rotations.

  • Yeah, John, I tried everything. And the global motion blur light is on. Maybe I should try turning that off? lol. I guess I haven’t tried that yet. But yeah, I have turned them all on and off in various permutations.

Yes, that does seem to be the default. Not sure how they converted mm to pixels. But more importantly, what about the other settings, such as aperture, etc.?

  • Also, I just created a solid layer and set it up just the same way, and voila, there is no issue. Rotations have motion blur. But, when the solid is in a simple precomp, then AE seems to behave differently. Moreover, I noticed that even the translations aren’t right. They look blurry, but the blur seems to flow in the wrong direction. I just want to emphasize how simple the precomp is. It only exists so that the color can be changed quickly. No matter what the settings for collapse, blur, 3d in the precomp, I only get rotation blur in the main comp if collapse is turned off. And even with it turned on, the translation blur comes from the wrong direction.
