    Thanks for the lead! I’ll start looking for an Intensity box. I’d use it with Blackmagic’s software, correct? Are there other software applications that can be used to interface between my Mac and the Betacam deck?

    Maybe I am using the word analog incorrectly;

    Betacam uses analog tapes and tech (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betacam).

    The issue is how to preserve RGB component quality when digitizing to a Mac without quality loss?

    Whether from a Betacam deck or any professional broadcast tape player from the 80s / 90s etc.

    I can half-step now, using Elgato Video Capture, but am limited to s-video and video outputs.

    Are you filming with the iPhone’s camera and built in software? Or are you using a videography app like Filmic Pro?

    Thanks for the link Shane, I’m already natively running the fastest upgrade speed OWC offers so I guess I’m stuck at this processing speed unless someone else offers a faster processor for the Mac Pro and I’m guessing that’s not possible without causing compatibility issues. If it was possible OWC would probably already offer it.

    I think you’re right, their website doesn’t mention it, just checked. I read it somewhere previously and have heard people say this. Thanks

    I’ve heard this, appreciate it and understand the benefits, but I’ve always pushed the limits of Media Composer’s ama linking abilities without importing and been able to save the step. Lately, the systems is not as fast as it once was editing with this work flow. I hear what you are saying about memory and will take that into account. I run Photoshop while I’m running MC, and always have a couple of browsers and mail open and working, but not too much more.

    I found the problem – there was a slash but not in the picture itsel – the slash was actually buried in the folder alias I was using “Getty / Photos” used to point to the sub-folder containing the problem photo itself. Now everything is importing properly. Thanks for your help evveryone. For more information / suggestions see: https://community.avid.com/forums/p/110592/640694.aspx#640694

    Ron, the problem is occurring with ANY picture I try to import, regardless of format: .jpeg, .tiff, .pict

    No slashes, asterisks, dashes or anything else Richard. The first thing I did was rename the image which was originally a .png file. I made it a standard jpeg. Then I did several “save-as” iterations in Photoshop creating a pict, tiff, etc. I also changed the name four or five times with the jpeg file. No dice. At first I thought maybe the issue was with the .png format but NONE of my jpegs are importing with the new Nitris and software upgrade. And these pictures imported without incident when I was running Adrenaline and an older version of Media Composer (cropped and uncropped) on my Apple computer. Dragging the picture file directly into the bin also fails; in that scenario there is no error message but nothing happens. That’s why I thought changing the import settings would make a difference, but so far this hasn’t worked.
