Hi Tim,
Let me make sure I understand the flow. I use the Xena LH analog outputs to the breakout box and then can connect that to the component-in on my LCD or plasma. At the same time I have video overlay in Premiere with the Cineform 10bit settings. I guess that will work the same with the AJA settings as well.
I was looking at the Quadro FX 4500 for the video card. I know that works great with the Adobe Production bundle.
With the Apple setup, you can use the IO converter. Is there something like that for Windows?I’m still trying to decide which way to go on the next system. The Prospect AJA solution is very viable.
I’m just dreading going back to Premiere full time. I like FCP very much and have that on the table as well. If Canopus could get their $#@#$$ together with some HD-SD/SDI and analog HD offerings, at a reasonable market price, that would also be on the table. I could even over look some of the shortcomings of Edius 4. That I must admit is a pipedream. So, I will be asking more questions over the next couple of months while I wait for motherboard chipset and cpu changes to settle down. Once that happens, It’s all or nothing. So in advance, thank you.Jerry Hatfield

I can’t use my FX4500 for overlay and the Xena card at the same time…
The Xena output would feed the monitor, you still get a desktop overlay from the video card,
don’t you.Jerry Hatfield

August 15, 2006 at 8:47 pm in reply to: Trouble editing 10-bit sequence with new v2 software for Xena LH card and PP2Dave,
I received this email from AJA about the 8400.Hello,
I have the Dell 690 here 2 of the PCIe slots are a bit slow for the LH card
based on the motherboard design. The HP XW6400 & XW8400 are both *NOT*
qualified for the LH card but work fine with the 2K card. I have yet to try
the Boxx 8300.AJA only tests and certifies complete systems. We don’t look at individual
motherboards.Will Simpson
AJA Video Technical SupportWhich model is the 2k card? I know for Apple it is the Kona 3.

August 15, 2006 at 1:16 am in reply to: Trouble editing 10-bit sequence with new v2 software for Xena LH card and PP2I noticed on your blog the numbers for the woodcrest xeons. I am curious about the
mobo used and if you were using the LH(e) or pci-x AJA card.
I am considering going the Prospect route with the AJA LH card. At this point in time I have been
unable to nail down a validated mobo. AJA only certifies turnkeys. Are you recommending any particular
board for use with the Woodcrest Xeon 3.0 and the Cineform Prospect package?

The way this is going to be used is for a permanent/semi-permanent display. My main question was
to shoot horizontal or shoot vertical? It seems that both ways work. The display the client has been
looking at will rotate the horizontal to vertical. It will scale it to fit. This will look like crap
in any event. The idea of shooting vertical and then rotating the display itself as opposed to software
is an interesting idea. I believe some research in that arena, as far as heat dissapation and such, needs
to be addresed. Thanks for all of the replys.Jerry Hatfield

The Vertical display itself, is not my responsibility. However, Sony has a vertical unit specifically designed for Vertical Use.

My confusion on the whole thing is the plasma handling the rotation. If it rotates everything 90 degrees
then if I shoot vertically it will rotate that 90 degrees or can the display unit tell 16×9 from 9×16?
This is my dilema. I guess shooting in horizontal HD and then scaling it for vertical would be the
easiest. I still think there will be a test and try method.
Thanks for your reply.Jerry Hatfield

I used to use PE and Reel DVD until Encore 1 was released. If you are familiar with an Adobe interface, I don’t think you will have a steep learning curve.
However, if you have not used Adobe products in the past and are not comfortable using them, it will take time. It is quite daunting to open up a project and have a blank screen staring at you.I would say that Encore is more ‘hands on’ than automatic. I use Photoshop to create or modify my menus. The updating feature with Encore, Photoshop, and After Effects is what I enjoy.
All authoring programs have certain requirements that have to be met in order to create the disc. If you provide the correct material in the fashion that it expects, you should not have any problems. The main requirement is how the workflow is handled by the user. If you like the workflow of a certain program and it does what you want, why not continue to use it. Definitely download the Sonic DVD6 trial and give it a whirl. You might like it better than PE and pick it up faster than Encore. But, also give Encore a try and see what you think.

I have the same problem. Are you using an ATI video card with your setup? I have a 9800 pro.
If I bring an encoded file in from Procoder, at any quality level, and apply chapters with posters,
the posters appear in a 256bit bitmap style. It looks like a mish mosh. A straight AVI with the same
chapters and posters are fine. Only after transcoding and adjusting something that I don’t like does it
display the same issue.
Any and all help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.Jerry Hatfield
