Since the arrival of Dynamic Link, I haven’t given it much thought as I do very few actual renders to a clip anymore…
Tim,
I installed my Video Bundle yesterday, I wasn’t going to until I got the new machine, but, and tried the
dynamic link. I did see it demonstrated at the Video Bundle tour and was glad to see it worked at home.
I was surprised to see the uncompressed title playing in realtime in the Cineform 10bit settings. I still need to learn alot more about the use of this feature. It is hampered by my underpowered machine for doing such project settings.Jerry Hatfield

The new Mac Pro will be the dual 3 GHz, 6 GB RAM, ATI X1900 video card, connected to a 3.5 TB Xraid.
Brian,
You might want to look into the ram issue before getting the 6 gb of ram. There is some sort of issue
with the ram handling on the Mac Pro. At this point anything above 2gb is wasted. Just thought I would give
you a heads up so that you could explore that a little further.Jerry Hatfield

Tim,
It was the Red Rock check mark that did it. Thanks.
Am I correct with the alpha support, or am I missing something in setup?Jerry Hatfield

One thing I discovered after posting was that when I captured with the Hd link by firewire into the Premiere 2.0 demo, the image was flipped horizontally and vertically. Is there some setting that I missed or is this setup to do this in the demo?

Tim,
Finally, I did get the demo installed and played with the codec. The viper footage supplied on the disc
is amazing. The codec works fine on P4 3.4 system. It requires some rendering, but hey, it’s not designed to do what I am making it do! The one thing that surprised me about the codec was that it does not support alpha. It is only a 3 channel exporter. I brought in, from AE7, various formats and had to render these files but they did produce alpha. After all of the griping I did about the Canopus codec not having alpha here is another one. By the way, one of the files I brought in was an HQ file that worked, but not in realtime.Jerry Hatfield

Luke,
How does the Online JPeg compare to Cineform Prospect in both quality and disc space use?
Is the Jpeg that you use, JPEG 2000?
I am currently looking into the Xena LH setup with the HD Connect SI box and the 10bit compressed
Cineform codec. This way I pull off of the firewire, convert to SDI, and the image is brought in at 1920×1080 in 10bit form. That said, if I don’t have to cough up for the Cineform I could save about $2500.Jerry Hatfield

There is another Convergent Design box coming that does not have analog out but has the FW>HDSDI for a bit less money if that matters…
If I go the Xena LH, the 1394 to SDI box would not repeat functions. I believe this would be a more realistic choice for me at this time. If I can save some money, that would be great.
I should have mentioned that all of those connections would be handled by the Prospect codec. You can figure that will be the case in future posts as well. Sorry, for ommiting that.
I just want to try to get the most out of the camera as I possibly can. I believe at times, depending
on what was shot, an analog capture could possibly provide smoothing for some of the digital ‘harshness.’
That is one of the reasons I am interested in the LH. I realize that I could just go with the firewire and capture straight through to PPro. The purpose of this new system is to have the SDI options available to me for larger projects.
I’ll keep my eye out for the new box from convergent. By the time I’m through with this, I’ll owe you dinner at NAB next year. Thanks again!!

Tim,
I was looking at the Convergent HD-Connect LE.
If I use the device to bring in HDV footage what, in your opinion would give the best to worst
quality.HD-Connect firewire to HD-SDI in on the XENA
HD-Connect analog to HD-SDI in on the XENA
XENA LH analog input on card
HDV camcorder direct to capture through firewireI guess the big question I am asking, will using the Xena card and the HD-Connect LE
produce any noticeable improvements to the footage on capture.Jerry Hatfield

In my case, I convert the HDSDI out so I can still use the large panel for this.
What are you using to convert the HDSDI for output? So, I set up with the 4500 get my editing application overlay and then output through the Xena
HD analog or HD SDI output to the breakout box and then to the monitor. The output path
has to be setup in order to do this . I hope that is right. I was looking at the drawing from the manual.
With the 4500 and the Xena I could run dual dvi monitors with overlay on the application and output to
monitor through the Xena. Or, is there something else that I would need to purchase in order to accomplish this.
At NAB, you had mentioned an issue with the drivers for the nvidia. Has that been resolved or have you
come up with a work around?Jerry Hatfield
