You might also want to consider a company that specializes in NLE computers instead of Dell or HP. An NLE computer can be a “special-breed”.

Are you trying to use the M15U to capture an HDV tape recorded with the Canon camera? If so, does the M15U work with non-Sony HDV tapes?
I use an M10 deck with tapes from Sony cameras, but haven’t tried it with a tape from a non-Sony camera.

Mine is just a basic Win XP Pro SP2 32bit installation.

Is there a way to tell if the program actually got authorized properly once it is running?
The “report a bug” link doesn’t work from the Help Contact menu as well. (Heh, heh, in other words, “report a bug” is “bugged”).
My old computer crashed and I replaced it with this new one. I can’t figure out how to transfer my old license to this new computer. It said I had two authorizations left when I tried to register it, so I just used one of those.

I just uninstalled and reinstalled and still just crashes every time I open it, except the first time after resetting the defaults from the start menu.

I can’t get PI to run after installing it either.
I’m running WinXP Pro SP2. I authorized the program and it just crashes every time I run it.
If I use the restore to defaults option from the start menu, the program will run once, but if I run it again it will just crash.

Does it also fail if you try capturing this format through the SD-SDI without RS-232 deck control? If that works, then we are back to the RS-232 being the culprit.
Actually, can you record through the SDI without RS-232? Can you capture that format through SD-SDI or does it need to be captured through HD-SDI? Does it matter? I would have thought 1280×720 would be an HD resolution and not SD, but my forte’ is computers not video formats 😉

I only suggested an analog capture without the RS-232 as a troubleshooting exercise, not as a solution.
If it can be validated that the problem is RS-232, then the next question, is it the deck, the Xena or the software that is having the problem with the RS-232?
It seems a little weird that an RS-232 problem in the deck would cause BSOD on the computer. You would think, if the deck is sending a “bad signal” to the Xena card, the Xena card should deal with it in a way that doesn’t BSOD the computer; e.g. throw an exception or ignore the bad data.

I’ve yet to see CS3 capture an HDV clip via firewire correctly. You’d think after trying to capture over two dozen tapes, if CS3 was capable of capturing correctly, I would have seen it. Especially since all other capture tools I have can capture the same tapes on the same hardware just fine (PPro 2.0 included).
For my HDV workflow, CS3 was a total step backwards in every aspect except rendering and outputting. It renders better (faster than real time on my dual quad core) and outputs better quality than 2.0. Unfortunately, it takes an act of God to get a project to that point 😉
