If FCP X is giving you the Surround option it’s detecting more than 2 channels. Maybe your camera gives you a stereo setting but stills keeps the 4 (silent) other tracks enabled.
If you click on the item in the event browser and check its audio settings in the Inspector, what is its channel configuration? You can reset+change audio setup in there.
You can also select all your problematic clips, go to Modify –> Analyze and Fix and select “Remove silent channels”. Hopefully this will ripple through multiclips where you’ve already inserted them.

Don’t “send to compressor”. Either make the desired preset in Compressor and add it to FCP X’s File –> Share –> Add Destination –> Compressor Setting or first make your master Prores export then compress it in Compressor.
If you’re still having issues, close FCP X and Compressor and run Digital Rebellion’s Compressor Repair:

2 options:
• Make a new multiclip in which you set the correct starting TC. copy all clips within one angle, paste into the new multiclip’s angle. Keep doing it angle by angle.• If you don’t want to make a new multiclip with correct TC, you can go into range mode (“r”) and hover your mouse over a clip to read its embedded TC.

/var/db/BootCaches/C846C685-FEE2-4996-B4DE-357A7B53234E
/private/var/db/BootCaches/C846C685-FEE2-4996-B4DE-357A7B53234E/(of course back these up before deleting, etc.)

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.FinalCut/Save the Instruments generated log and upload it here. I’ll convert to a spreadsheet to look into it further.

3. Hit record. Let FCPX launch, then stop instruments. Start looking at the logs.

I downloaded Apple’s Xcode in order to get their app “Instruments”. It allows you to see every file that FCP X reads or writes. Maybe you’ll find the file that’s the cause of it all…
