April 29, 2014 at 2:32 pm in reply to: Total FCPX Crash – X does not recognize any plug ins anymoreI was only thinking about their freeware application “Preference Manager” (that does also appear in their more extensive application suites).
Here are some files you can try deleting manually (they might only be on Mavericks/ FCPX 10.1.1):
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FinalCut.plist
~/Library/Application Support/Compressor/CompressorConfig.plist
~/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/Layouts/Final Cut Pro.saved.moduleLayout
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.FinalCut/.dat0e10.000
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.FinalCut.savedState/data.data
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.FinalCut.savedState/restorecount.plist
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.FinalCut.savedState/windows.plistOf course emptying trash and restarting the computer might help after deleting and before reopening FCP X.

April 28, 2014 at 6:37 pm in reply to: Total FCPX Crash – X does not recognize any plug ins anymoreGo to your Movies/Motion Templates. Temporarily move everything out of there. Trash preferences, hopefully FCP X opens up OK.
Close FCP X, start moving motion templates/generators one by one (or as many as you want to experiment with).
Also, I’ve had weird issues that have been fixed by deleting a specific file (this is for 10.1 but might work for previous versions):

FCPX 10.0.6 seems like so long ago, I feel like I won’t be able to assist you more if you’re not on 10.1.1.
Command+J –> modify settings doesn’t work in 10.0.6? The fact that FCPX imported as 720p clearly indicates there’s a problem.
Maybe you can attach the XML and I can see if there’s any obvious issue I’m able to discern.

As others have stated, Compressor 4.1 can conform your footage (but it is adding a level of compression – no big deal if you’re in 422 HQ for instance).
You can also use Resolve (Lite). Bring all shots into the media pool. Select them all and change their framerate. You’ll know it will have worked because the duration column will have changed. Again, this will add a layer of compression.
The only tool I know that is able to change the actual header of the quicktime is Cinema Tools (and since I’ve installed FCPX (or was it Mavericks?), Cinema Tools crashes as soon as I try opening it).

March 20, 2014 at 9:02 pm in reply to: FCPX “ghosting”issue (10.1) events inside library going offline, nothing shows up.Yes I’ve seen this “journal” file(s) that block the library from opening. I’ve only seen them appear if FCPX had crashed.
I haven’t fully understood how to restore an FCPX backup (manually restoring vs using FCPX’s built in feature). I’ve ended up using the third party app “Backups for Final Cut Pro” https://npassociatesllc.com/backupsforfcp/ . Very efficient tool that does exactly what it needs to do. Restoring a library is a painless experience.
I’ve been using XML to share events but have stopped using them for projects. Inconsistent results with text elements (text resetting itself to “Basic Title” or showing the right text in preview but displaying wrong text when exporting, etc.).
I haven’t played much with it but it seems possible to manually recreate a library/cut by making a new “library.fcpbundle” folder and copying the event folder, fcpevent file that corresponds t the cut and the “original media” folder (since I work with external media, this a 20kb folder with a bunch of symlinks).
Best,
