  • Total FCPX Crash – X does not recognize any plug ins anymore

Posted by Sascha Engel on April 28, 2014 at 1:39 pm

    Hallo,

I really really hope, somebody can help me out.
I have a deadline in 8 hours and following happened. I still work with 10.0.8 since I have OSX 10.8.4. since I work on a Hacintosh.
FCPX always worked fine. When I just dropped a Compressor on an Audio Track it crashed. Then on restart it gets always stuck, since it tries to open all TL, which all contain effects and third party plug ins.
When I hide all Events and Projects, it opens fine, but I see, that it does not recognize ANY of my third party plug ins, effects or generators.
It shows suddenly in the effect bin three effects only: Drop Shadow, Luma Keyer and Keyer. That’s it. Probably even less, than the standard package.
What can this be? I am really desperate, since I never saw this before.
I already tried everything from Trashing Preference Files, Disk Utility, re installing X – nothing.
Back Up from TimeMAchine is an option?
    Thanx for help.

    Greetings,

Go to your Movies/Motion Templates. Temporarily move everything out of there. Trash preferences, hopefully FCP X opens up OK.

Close FCP X, start moving motion templates/generators one by one (or as many as you want to experiment with).

Also, I’ve had weird issues that have been fixed by deleting a specific file (this is for 10.1 but might work for previous versions):

    Best of luck!

Thanx a lot, after many hours of fighting the problem I went home to sleep. I will try your method first thing in the morning. I will keep you updated if it worked.

Check this thread as well, maybe different but worth a shot…

But since this thread deals with libraries in FCPX, I assume the fix won’t apply to the previous version, where still Project and Events are at hand.

    You’re correct, my mistake…

I tried about everything possible…Please, if anybody has an idea, which file I would have to delete to get my FCPX working again, contact me.

Unfortunately, I do not have a /presets/projects folder there.

This is the (hidden) library in your user folder, correct?
