I know that Vasst’s UltimateS Pro allows you to do this via scripting, and I would think Excalibur would allow for the same.

You could look around in the Vegas scripting forum on sonycreativesoftware.com and see if there is a script that allows for this for free.

Download gspot and it will tell you what format the avi file is in. It may be Xvid or DivX or some other unrecognized format. If you can find out what is kept in the avi wrapper, you can either A. Download the VFW codec that will allow you to use it, or B. convert it in Vegas to a format that DVDA can recognize.

Look above your preview window. There is an icon there that will allow you to apply it to the entire timeline.

Maybe post some more specific questions that we can help you with.

With that being said, Vegas is platform agnostic so you don’t need/benefit (from) hardware acceleration.

The 32 bit floating point option does not always work like it should (or how you think it should). There is a bunch of information on this from Glenn Chan.

It integrates well with Cinescore, SoundForge and DVD Architect.

Scripting is one of the greatest things you could ask for in an NLE: Take a look at Vasst.com for UltimateS Pro or Jetdv.com for Excalibur and then there are tons of free scripts as well.

Pngs tend to work better than jpegs on the timeline.

Take the time to learn ProType Titler.

Lots of control over render settings.

See where you are storing your temp. files and make sure there is adequate space to store the recording. If you have another drive besides your main one, try moving your temporary file location (within Vegas) to the other drive as opposed to the one that has Windows on it.

I do a lot of social videography and we’re happy to use music that the clients own and bring to us. As you said, it’s essentially a legal “backup” of material that they own that they aren’t distributing.

I just wanted to address something with the above quote for your benefit (and your company’s). Once you take the music and add it to video, it is no longer considered a backup. It has been sync’ed. To do this legally, you need a synchronization license that allows you to sink your video to the music or visa versa.

Without a sync license, you could still be sued (however unlikely it is that the RIAA is to go after you).

It may not make sense, but this is something that people do to protect their servers and their clients’ information that is stored on them. The file is still there and can be ftp’ed but cannot always be used how it is intended to be used. I used to not be able to link veg files on my server but after submitting a request asking for it and explaining what the .veg was, they approved it and now I no longer have to zip it to provide direct links.

Again, it may not make sense, but so is life.

Hi Charlie,

I read your post over on Sony’s forum as well. I would contact your server host and make sure that mp4 files are recognized on your server. I had an issue in the past where my files, once uploaded, could not be read and showed up as code. Once I put in a request with my host to add the extension, all was well.

I too made that same decision and have lost work because of it. The potential clients have gone elsewhere to someone who is willing to use popular songs in their work. I can’t morally do so as it violates my conscience and is illegal to boot!

And as Steve says, there are tons of other options out there, they just won’t be “known” options unless you happen to own a recording studio that produces chart topping hits 🙂

Go to “File”
Select “Import”
And then I believe the option is …from DVD Camera or Handycam.

If you do it this way, it should work fine- just be patient as it takes a while.
