A compound also works, but a secondary might be better as you can adjust without opening the compound, and you can achieve the same thing.

Put the music in a secondary storyline, and attach it to a point in the timeline before the clip you want to delete.

LE does not trim the media, so you are providing all of the media. The full version allows trimming of the media plus a user specified handle length, which cuts down the file size.

  • MochaPro is fantastic for tracking/roto

Mocha technology is present in an FCPX plugin called Track X (and Slice X).

Mocha combined with after effects or another composting application will offer the most flexibility, but it’s a fairly steep learning curve.

To add to what Oliver is saying, you can still shoot and grade footage in 709. We do it everyday.

BTW, for the late adopters, this release requires High Sierra.

  • Are you saying you want to move the mixer around?

I’m a bit unsure of what you are trying to do. From what I can gather, you want to separate the mixer from the background which is the desk, box, and wall?

A difference mask may help, but it won’t be all you will need.

[Doug Metz] “I think Lisa wants to alter the default behavior of the audio handles themselves, instead of having to right-click and select the preferred curve.”

    Ah yes.

If true, that is something that would make a great feature request.

    Try optimizing that one clip.

Right click and choose to Transcode media > optimize.

I routinely work with mobile and desktop setups. I usually keep a copy of media on a portable drive and SAN synced with chronosync. Keeping everything on one drive has a bit of an advantage in that it’s easoer to manage, but performance may not always be optimal.

As far as safety, having a portable and desktop setup is more safe as everything is in two places at least.

Chronosync, or similar, helps keep all the media and versions in sync between disparate drives.
