  • [Glenn Payne] “Do INACTIVE CLIPS refer to audio clips that you’ve muted in fcpx? So checking that box will keep those from being sent, correct? “

Inactive clips are channels that you have turned off in the Inspector, which is different from the clips that you have disabled (v key) in the Timeline.

Inactive clips do not show up in the timeline, but you can still choose to send them to ProTools (or not).

Disabled clips are the ‘dimmed’ clips in the timeline.

[Glenn Payne] “I’m curious if it’ll let me assign varying roles to audio tracks that are part of the same singular Poly WAV file.”

Yes it will. Just right click on each channel and assign a role, but even then, not sure if you need to do this.

[Glenn Payne] “An idea that I’ve been trying to avoid is busting up each poly WAV file and then just manually lowering each piece that I need to.”

There is no need for this. I think you can do this with either just X2Pro, or setting up different Roles, and then telling X2Pro how to handle them.

  • You have the full version of X2Pro, right? Not LE?

If you want to not send disabled clips, check the option to discard disabled clips. I also discard inactive tracks (this would be channels that are turned off) This is how my prefs are setup:

If you reference multichannel was files, you will have to supply full production audio for relinking on their end.

How have you setup your roles? Did you try assigning different Roles to the less ideal channels? You then set the prefs to “Keep SubRoles Separate” and they will receive those clips marked as “second choices” or whatever you name them in separate tracks.

  • It doesn’t matter what codec files you made. If you made ProRes Proxy files, that’s cool.

Just don’t use the Proxy mode in FCPX. Use “Original/Optimized” mode and use the files you created from RCX to edit with.

You can reconnect to R3D later in the process.

  • I assume you have the latest Red plugin?

Even so, just use the ProRes files in FCPX, and don’t use Proxy mode. Just use the regular full res mode.

  • Why use Proxy mode?

Just use regular mode. Do the edit, then relink to R3D in the end using RCX.

You can then send that relinked FCPXML back to Final Cut Pro.

[Mandy Leonardo] “Also, this is only happening for some projects….there are several that are in there just fine. It’s also worth noting that when I installed FCP on my new computer, it installed an updated version. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
    “

Are you sure it’s media that is missing and not a filter, plugin, or motion template?

[Simon Ubsdell] “Thus the duration of a clip that’s 37 frames long in a 25p sequence is expressed as: 3700/2500s. A clip that’s 45 frames long in a 30p timeline is expressed as 22500/15000s. And so on.”

Yes, this is what I am taking about. As always, you say it much better than I. 😉

This happens if you have a 25 or 50 FPS clip in the secondary, and you overwrite it to the primary. The primary storyline will shift time when it should just overwrite and and keep time of all the clips surrounding it.
