I also use wetransfer.com. The only downside is that it requires flash.

If I had the opportunity to take 13 weeks paid time off when I had my kids, I would have jumped at the chance. As it was, my wife did take leave of 6 weeks unpaid. I would have too, if we could have afforded it.

Jobs come and go, but your family does not. Besides it would be illegal for the company you work for to fire you. Not saying they won’t come up with another excuse, but paternity leave won’t be the cause.

    Odd to say the least.

Source is XDCAM sequence is ProRes.

Not sure why it worked before and now it doesn’t. When I send it to motion and apply the same filters it works. It worked in FCP on a previous episode and I’ll try again of a future episode.

I went ahead and keyed it with the chroma keyer and the results are fine. The hair isn’t quite as nice as using Primatte, but its workable.

I think one of the great things about Kickstarter is that you can run your campaign anyway you want and ask for what you want. Either people get on board or they don’t. If you want living expenses, ask for them. If you can convince people that your project is interesting enough, you will have a shot at getting it funded. Just last year there was one project (a year without rent) and all he asked for was living expenses.

Ask for whatever you want. Then be prepared to sell why you need it.

I haven’t used the HD version, but I do have the original which I used quite a bit on G4 and G5 system. It made h.264 encoding real-time on those systems.

I never liked the results as much as the ones I got from compressor, but they were fine for working with remote producers. There were a few more artifacts and less detail in the darks which the original Elegato seemed to crush.

The HD version seems to be much more customizable than the the original, but I get quite a bit better than real-time encoding on my intel machine and for my workflow I only encode at night, lunch, or break time anyway so I haven’t looked into speeding up the process recently.

April 26, 2012 at 9:33 pm in reply to: Remote head for jib use

We use a Varizoom. The only time it has give us troubles is when we get close to the rated payload. It says it will support up to 30lbs, but when we get a fully loaded Sony 730 HDCAM on there, the motor slows down and the tilt motion is handicapped. There is also a little sway when we start and stop moving the jib.

Now anytime we’ve used smaller HDV cameras like the Z5, it’s been really nice and we can even do 360º with the tilt control, which of course, you’d never use, but you have to test it out don’t you?

Mostly we use in studio with a loaded 730 though.

In FCP you could just use media manager and either copy or move or even transcode to all one codec and all the current media would be put into one location.

In Premiere or After Effects the equivalent would be the collect command.

[Mark Suszko] “My next step is finding the right software to just play a BD movie disk on the mac. So far, most solutions offered seem to require ripping the files to your drive before playing. I’d appreciate any guidance on what you other guys use for this.”

I’d love to know what you find. I just rip ’em and play the file in VLC.

I always just use the Apple TV 2 preset. However, it’s only 720 not 1080. It runs at bit rate of 10. I use my WDTV on a 720 TV so it’s not a big deal to me, it might be to you though.

January 26, 2012 at 5:11 pm in reply to: Timecode funkiness

I never did get it to work. It is definitely a drop frame, non-drop frame issue. All the clips were shot non-drop frame. When I highlight them in the bin, under the in and out the footage displays the correct time code, but under the media attributes tab it will not display as non-frop frame.

After trying for couple hours, I just recut the piece in FCP. Probably should have done that straight off as that only took an hour.
