I dealt with it by opening the quicktimes in soundtrack, exporting the audio as mono and relinking the video with the new audio tracks in FCP. It took a while, but worked just fine since I didn’t have a way to recapture the footage at home.

  • How then did the old divx dvds work? (The ones that limited play that were purchased at circuit city about the same time as dvds first started getting popular, not the codec)

Really you guys can stop answering now, I’m just feeling a little antagonistic at the moment.

  • I thought you were able to transfer a rented movie to your ipod in which case it would be out of itunes. That’s not the case?

  • How then does a movie rental work from Itunes? Wouldn’t this be the same thing?

I’m not saying it’s easy or cheap, but surely it can be done give the example of Itunes.

I don’t have any clue though.

Without knowing your machine specs, my guess would be you are using a version of quicktime that is not compatible with FCP 4.5.

This is what I encountered when I digitized some stuff at work and brought the clips to my old home machine. In quicktime they played fine, but the audio was not there in FCP 4.5.

With what could be several thousand files associated to each project, I guess it makes more sense for the editors to do their own dubs than have an assistant try to track down a file that may or may be locked.

Do you just select the files in the bins then?

We can open all the projects just fine we only get the error while rendering.

Did you ever get this resolved? We are experiencing this exact problem and wondering if there is a fix.

Yep you are right. I did my math with 400 not 4000. Guess it’s time to go back to elementary school.
