I’ve had luck in the past with trimming out the very first frame of a Vimeo video before exporting or transcoding. It’s strange but it worked.

Might a deck with RS422 (and/or component for reference) help stabilize the video signal? I’d rather go that route if a frame sync will degrade the image.

I brought in my own Canopus ADVC-100 super cheapo SD IO to use as a control in the experiment. I’d use it to capture these tapes but the picture isn’t nearly as cruddy with the AJA, predictably.

    Thanks for the advice.

The JVC HR-DVS2 we are using claims to have a TBC built-in, but that doesn’t seem to be the issue. It seems if we have a video reference signal that identically matches the video (say, both S-Video or both BNC) it will probably capture in sync. A hunch anyway. A PAL deck with two composite outs (one for video signal, one for reference) synced fine.

Mark, what is the model of JVC you covet? Do you have any opinions on its reliability or availability of parts? We need to get a deck, but these are so old we want to make sure we can still get it serviced (or don’t need to, better yet).

    Thanks!

Let me make this clear and then we can consider this case closed.

I have not installed and will not install Little Snitch on any machines whatsoever. I have not and do not use pirated software, and I do not intend to.

That’s it. Got it everybody? Call off the witch hunt.

    Thanks for the advice.

Walter! I bought your Color tutorial and I’m about half way through. It’s great!

With all due respect I thought this was a technical forum. And if you read my previous post I state clearly that I am NOT the boss, meaning I am not the person making the purchases here. Just looking for some technical advice. That’s all.

    Best,

    Sheeeesh you guys.

Thanks for all of your opinions on using pirated software. That’s not what we’re doing here. I merely asked if anyone had experience using that program, not textbook definitions or morality lessons. I’d think there’d be a more appropriate forum for that…

And like I said, I just work here. I’m trying to deal with the limitations, something we regularly have to do as editors. Right? Wait – Don’t answer that.

Nobody is using pirated software here, nor does anyone intend to pirate software. We are using our paid-for, registered copy of FCP on a few machines. Not all the machines are used to edit constantly, at least not enough to justify another massive payment to Apple for another FCP disc. It’s annoying trying to determine who’s got FCP open while online, and I don’t think trying to eliminate this annoyance is unreasonable.

I’m just trying to smooth the workflow at the office (I’m not the boss here) and was wondering if anyone has experience using that program. No need to get all up in arms about it.

    Thanks David.

I have been using Compressor to crop and export, not FCP, with no problems. I was mainly worried about delivering this odd frame size to the client and having them view it in Quicktime with the same stretched result.
