Can’t transcode downloaded material from Vimeo
Hi,
I downloaded some of my own material that I have posted on Vimeo because I wanted to make a DVD of the clip [the masters are on a drive that I don’t have access to].
But when I download the clip it played fine in QT, but iDVD won’t encode it — and when I try using QT7 or Quicktime or MPEG streamclip to upres to DV, neither program will reconize the file for the export.The downloaded file is a .mp4 file and it plays fine in QT, but when I Apple-I to look at the info, it tells me have a zero Data Size [?]
Maybe that’s why I can’t export or transcode it.Am I missing anything? Any work-arounds?

Do you have Compressor? You can convert it.

That’s just the issue – Compressor plays the file but won’t export it, either.

Interestingly, I CAN export it with Premiere Pro CS5.

I’ve had luck in the past with trimming out the very first frame of a Vimeo video before exporting or transcoding. It’s strange but it worked.

A somewhat weird situation. I think you have downloaded the actual video file since you can play it with QT, but i really cannot underatand why other tools meet failure in playing the video. How about use a vimeo converter to transform the video format, then play it with other media players. Generally, I use Video Download Capture to convert videos, it also can be used to download streaming videos online.
