Just wanted to wrap this up by saying I went with the 8GB package from OWC. Shipping was extremely fast, ordered around 7pm (selected overnight) and it was here by about 9am this morning. I installed the new DIMMs per Kevin’s suggestions and everything seems to be running fine so far. I’m still on my G5 for now, but I’ll be switching em out later today and I can’t wait to put it to the test!

Thanks again for the OWC link Ron. They were a pleasure to deal with and very thorough with packaging and instructions.

Did you not just replace your Point of Interest with a null? It seems like it would be the same thing, as far as position data goes. I haven’t used Psunami, but I’m guessing you can’t link it to the camera’s POI?

Good job on the work around though. Figuring out how to overcome limitations of a program is a skill in itself I believe.

    Couple more questions…

If I buy this RAM Package, 8GB (4x2GB) for a total of 10GB (with original 2GB installed) will that produce any problems? That would leave me with 2 empty slots for a while.

    8 GB package

Or should I just go ahead and get 12GB (6x2GB) so that all of my slots would be filled?

Thanks for the link Ron, and special thanks to Kevin for the breakdown. It always amazes me when people go out of their way to help a complete stranger 🙂 I’ve been reading this board for years and I only wish I had more time to help with other’s questions.

Kevin, just so I’m completely clear on this… A1 & A2 need to match and B1 & B2 need to mirror that setup, right?

And in your scenario, if I bumped the originals to A3 & A4, would I need to buy another 2x1GB pair for B3 & B4? I know that would be optimal, but could I get by until I could afford 4 more 2 GB sticks and replace the originals all together?

i had to do somehting very similar recently and I used the stroke effect for the writing and erasing. For erasing just use a big fat brush. Also, there are alot of free “chalk” looking fonts out there that might help ya

Sounds like you might want to look into Automatic Duck as well. It lets you import the timeline from FCP as separate clips. Otherwise you would get one long quicktime file and have to split the layer at every cut to do the fx work. And the best part is you would be working from the original clips, not just the exact cuts the editor made. That way you can extend a couple frames here and there if there were slight changes to the edit. Something to think about..

hmmmm… do you have each letter taking up exactly one frame in the composition? You may need to zoom into the timeline and make sure.

    Frame 1 = A
    Frame 2 = B
    Frame 3 = C
    etc..

That’s the only other thing I can think of at the moment.. Anybody else?

ok, i can see the issue now, but I’m not really sure why it’s happening like that. How are you generating your text? Are you wanting the whole alphabet in there or just a few select letters? It seems like there are only a handful of letters being generated. The fewer letters you have, the harder it is for it to look “random”… Did you try different amounts for the random seed, or just 0 and 100?

I’m not sure I fully understand the problem. Could you include a screen shot of your comp? There are a couple ways you could affect how the particles come out. One way is to go into the options and set the pre-roll to different numbers and see what that produces. The pre-roll just gets particular started a little earlier than the first frame so it may distribute the particles differently.

If you could include a screenshot, I bet we might could help you a little quicker.
