Thanks Rohit, I appreciate the info. That has me intrigued now. I may stall and wait for the 4GB 680s. Only sad thing would be the lack of being able to run them on a hackintosh config. All windows, which is truly where I am probably going.

Would love to hear anything you have soon Rohit. Need to make a workstation purchase soon. Or maybe a heads up on either buying GTX 580 3GBs or GTX 680s? Thanks.

Hi Rohit. Will be soon. Building a new workstation for Resolve and Motion Graphics…so trying to find the best balance in GPUs. You may not remember me but we met at the 2011 NAB. I had tons of technical questions trying to force an old 2007 Mac Pro to use Resolve. Needless to say I gave up. I will be building a new workstation for that purpose.

Oooo, would love to see some actual number comparisons between 680s vs 580s in Resolve. Was gonna buy three 580s today but I will hold off tell I hear your numbers.

I would agree…seems to be the case.

Thanks Margus. I had noticed that chart but for some reason didn’t catch the 680 on there at first glance. Sadly not actual Resolve numbers….but the results seem to ring true as to what I have been hearing. The 600 Keplers just can’t seem to hold up to the 500 Fermis in computational tasks. Love to see any other similar results if anyone knows of any? Been watching 2 GTX 580 3GB cards that I might snag up tomorrow or Friday if I can confirm this is truly the case.

Yeah the bulk of my work is in either two extremes, 1080 or 4K these days. My main client has both a Scarlet and an Epic and several of my short film clients like to ask for 4K masters.

The 680 2GB cards are easy to come by. The 690 is near impossible and the 4GB 680s and the 8GB dual 680 have yet to be released. But rumor has it even with all those cuda cores and bandwidth they still get trounced computationally by 580s. However I would love to know how the current 680’s work in Resolve before buying old 580s that are already End of Life.

Thanks! Can’t seem to track down Sasha’s “Candle Test” Project in his user profile, his websites, or a google search. Can you point me in the right direction?

Ah. I can’t run Resolve on my current system….thus the new workstation in the works. So I’m having a friend test it. Is the Candle test a project that comes with the install? Does it have to be a legit license or does the free one have the same project? Thanks
