    The quick way:

Click on the clip (or press ‘c’ to select), in the audio section of the inspector select “dual mono” instead of “stereo.” If you just don’t want a track at all, you can deselect it. If you want to independently edit the audio tracks, right click the clip and select “open in timeline.”

You can now edit the tracks ala all other NLEs on the planet. (press command-[ to go back to the main timeline)

    A nice quick edit feature:

Select range mode (press ‘r’), then highlight a section of audio that you want to raise or lower volume. In the middle of the clip you can drag the levels up or down and FCPX creates the appropriate keyframes. Or press delete to cut a gap.

You can manually add keyframes by option-clicking…

Yes. If I create an “effect template” it has a placeholder that works, and I can add additional drop zones. In FCPX, I drop the ‘effect’ onto a video source and that becomes drop zone 1, but additional drop zones show up as ‘wells’ and I can add video to them, and they work fine.

If I create a ‘generator’ as a stand alone video clip, drop zones show up as ‘wells’ and I can add video to them, but they are turned into stills, not motion.

If I publish an “effect template” the drop zones are video, but if I do a “motion template” the drop zones are still.

No, It’s still from the beginning – no motion whatsoever…

When I click on a clip, hit shift-F, I get the range in the event browser clip and a line parked at a frame which should be the match frame but it’s off by a second.

So the range is there (in/out of the clip), a line is parked on a frame, but it’s arbitrary.

So I guess no match frame capabilities?

FCP 7 is so much easier…

  • I have had it randomly stick on a clip and not be able to select anything else until you fidget around for awhile. I haven’t found a work-around.

Seems to be just another bug…

FCP 7 is like running track barefoot while FCP X is like running with steel toed work boots covered in cement.

That would be best. A lot of newer mic sets have stereo 1/8″ jacks for balanced audio out, using a stereo 1/8 to XLR cable.

I was assuming you were using the handle which has XLR jacks. This gives you much more control over audio.
