I use my IOHD for 5.1 surround monitoring right off of my FCP Timeline. I did have to buy 2 AJA AdA4 converters to go from AES to the ADA4 and then XLR to RCA into my receiever which supports direct external inputs. I put the 6 5.1 files on my timeline as well as stereo for the other two outputs on the IOHD. Then I can sit in my home theatre with my bluetooth keyboard and toggle between 5.1 and stereo. I can also edit on the fly. My ultimate low budget pro res concert edit suite!

The advantage it gives is if you need two raids for storage. If you connect them both, you have an advantage of constantly having to swich cables, which by the way – you are right, if you don’t hold the card while inserting the cable, you can eject the card.
Working with Pro Res, you know the file sizes are large. I work with multicam multiclips and it really makes it handy having two ports to export to a second raid.
Don’t get me wrong here, Cal Digit is great and has a quality reputation but I think you missed it by not having two or more ports on your card. I wish there was a card made with 4-5 ports just for convenience.

I have both and I do not see any difference in operating my 4 disk raid 0 with either card. I do have 5 raids though and it sure is convenient to have two plugged in at a time when media managing my space!

Why not just rent p2 cards and be done with it and save some money?

Hey Nicholas,
Do you know what the source was from the board? Was it a monitor mix or REC out? Sometimes the line that you get from the board has a gain on it as well. Did you listen to the signal with headphones connected to the marantz? It might be that yur signal in was too hot, possibly with the lin vs. mic levels like Ty talked about above but it could have been an over driven signal that could have simply had it’s gain lowered while you were monitoring the signal. Next time, the simplest connection would be RCA out of the REC (this is meant to send a signal to an external recorder) out to mini line in to the marantz.
But, a tough lesson, ALWAYS listen to the signal you are recording and make adjustments.
