I see, good question. Like I said, I haven’t ever done the comparison with mine. I bought mine for the ability to work hand held on stage with a self contained HD SDI (100 feet) with my Z-1.

Kind of like an audio preamp question – which one is better if any? I do not know. Sorry

    Hi Mark,

I chose a different product by Miranda https://www.miranda.com/product.php?i=337&l=1

It’s a lot more than the convergent but I think the features are worth it and at the time I could afford it. It attaches to my camera and allows a full 4:2:2 pro res hq capture direct to my MBP and esata raid. I use it with my Z-1. I haven’t done the tests you are looking for but the main thing is getting out of the long GOP. I love it though!

The IOHD is just a capture box. Once it’s captured, you don’t need it until/unless you need it for outputting.

    Hello, Jeff here,

I don’t know what you think of this setup but I use these all the time. I bout this from Shure.

    https://www.shure.com/ProAudio/Products/PersonalMonitorSystems/us_pro_P4MTRE3_content

It’s made as a personal monitor mixer for bands that don’t use floor monitors. It has a wireless transmitter as well. You have 4 neutrik inputs and then you can send a mix to thetransmitter and send a reference stereo trak to your camera. The mixer also has 4 pre fade direct outs (XLR)

Might not work for you though. Sorry if it doesnet.

    Hello Mass,

When you encoded the 5.1, both dolby and dts, did you set the voice normalization to -31?

That freerun time of day ca really bite you in the ass. Look out for times where you don’t have enough pre roll. FC takes time to searchfor t/c and won’t capture so you lose 4-5 seconds of capture.

I always wonder why a laptop and a FW interface is not deemed a portable setup. I feel your options are much better to get a better sound.

My plan for monitoring video is to hook the IoHD to a 32″ LCD TV (although it isn’t native 1920x1080p) will this pose a problem? Should I just suck it up and get a 1080p monitor? Considering that HD will probably not happen all that much, I think the 32″ will suffice – it is a Samsung brand; basically a consumer model (not ideal but it is what I have available without spending more $$$). Hook up would be HDMI. Audio would be monitored just like my IoLA hooked into a mixer analog to my audio monitors.

Why not make an easier setup with that tv. Output HDMI into your theater receiver via HDMI and assign audio through FCP and the IOHD?

If you are getting the IOHD, you don’t need a deck. Capture live to an external esata drive on you MP. The IOHD is not used for editing, it is used ONLY for capturing. HD SDI from you switcher to the IOHD and 800FW to the MP. You ISO tapes on your camera’s but send the switched feed to the IOHD.
