You’re in a FCPX forum so you know what the answer’s going to be 🙂 Ultimately though, the keyers in either app are fine. The final result is really going to depend on how well the footage was shot (quality of lighting, frame rate, etc) and how experienced you are with your keyer of choice.
Try ’em both and see what you like. As with any workflow, now matter what we might say you’ll still have to test it for yourself and make your own decision.

Yep… that is confusing 🙂
You have a background. You have a cropped still of a waterfall. At the simplest level, you could just keyframe a crop to make that look like the waterfall was flowing down. What’s the white rectangle for, or meant to represent?

There have been a few threads about this already but LUT Utility is working fine for me under Yosemite, although I had a lot of issues with FCPX and Yosemite in general when I tried upgrading rather than a clean install. Prior to a clean install, FCPX would freeze when I tried using LUT Utility.
I can also confirm that the HyColour Pro 1.6 plugin works under Yosemite.
With Yosemite’s changes to AV Foundation under the hood, I think you’ll find the plugins most at risk are those like mObject and many from FX Factory that are more GPU intensive.

I spoke too soon about the Mac Pro running well. FCPX got to the point where I couldn’t scrub more than a couple of seconds of timeline without it freezing and making me force quit.
I’ve just done a second clean install and this time it’s working the way I expected. No issues at all.
I’m in the process of slowly adding hardware and software back, then doing some editing, then adding another item. So far, it’s behaving itself perfectly.

I’ve been using Yosemite on my laptop during the beta with no real issues so I didn’t hesitate to upgrade my Mac Pro once the full version was officially released.
So far, so good.

It’s not so much whether you’ve set any preferences but whether the preference file has become corrupted, causing anything from crashes to weird UI behaviour. It’s the basic go-to for unexplained behaviour with the next step being trash the app and reinstall.

FCPX only supports firewire ingest, not export and even the ingest is a bit of an afterthought. Firewire is pretty much dead and gone as far as Apple are concerned these days. In FCPX you’ll need a more modern equivalent of the ADVC box to do import/playout. Something like the Black Magic Intensity that has analogue I/O.

The question was could you do it all in FCPX and although they integrate, Motion is a seperate application. So yes, you can do it in FCPX but you will have to handle the particle effects in something else – be that Motion, Cinema 4D, mObiects, grab some stock footage, or whatever.

Yep, no problem – with the exception of the the particles and 3D stuff which you’d have to create somewhere else, then import.
