That’s a weird one. FCPX doesn’t need to rewrap MP4 footage from my GH4 or G7. A friend has shot for me with his G85 and I don’t remember there being anything different about it.

Anyway, from the sounds of it, reimport and bring up the background tasks pane to make sure the import is completely finished before shutting down FCPX and you should be good.

The G85 can record both MP4 and AVCHD. Mp4 files shouldn’t need to be rewrapped but AVCHD files always do. It might pay to double check your camera settings.

I know there is a bug in 10.3.4 that can cause this to happen with footage recorded in IOS 11, but maybe it’s also affecting other footage as well? You either end up with black clips on the timeline or FCPX continually thinks the footage hasn’t been imported properly.

It’s fixed by updating to FCPX 10.4 and installing the updated pro codec pack. That might work for you as well.

I have no idea why export would be greyed out but in the interest of diagnosing the problem – is it just for that project or just for that library, or for anything you open in FCPX? Can you still send to Compressor? And just like the I.T. guy who asks have you tried turning the computer off and on again, have you tried resetting the FCPX preferences?

Can’t say I’ve seen it. There’s little bit of crossover as you’d expect but the colour board and the colour wheels function pretty much the same way here.

Not every bit of footage works well with optical flow. Have you tried the other options? One of those may look better.

There’s an easier way – when you choose a custom LUT from inside the filter itself, choose a folder instead of an individual LUT and that folder and it’s contents will be permanently added to the list. The same applies to custom camera LUTS in the inspector. The folder(s) can be located anywhere you want.

I think you could play for hours in final cut and not get anywhere but you’d probably rescue the audio, or at least make it useable, in a few clicks using izotope rx. Expensive but there really isn’t a better tool for the job.

Otherwise in FCPX it’s a case of using maybe a parametric EQ and your ears to sweep through the spectrum and isolate the frequencies to pull out but it’s never going to deal with broadband noise like wind.

I’ve had zero issues with 10.4 so far but I haven’t done any major work with it yet. No issues with any plugins either. I’d suggest backing up your projects before they’re updated and keep a copy of 10.3 handy in case you have to roll back.
