Yeah, you should be able to do what you are doing easy for what you have. I’d start by reinstalling Photoshop. Something is not write. If that doesn’t work, I’d say something is wrong with your Mac

THis is a site for a 3D graphics program. The site offers free download of 3D artwork (.car files) that the user can download for free and use for there own purposes.
Right now I have a click here link but the user would have to left click, or option-click on a mac. I’d just like to make it simpler, to aviod confusion.

I would a) reintall quark and b) repair permissions on the Mac. If that doesn’t work, I’d look into getting something like Disk Warrior.

I’m not sure what you mean. Are you recreating these objects in Illustrator? That sounds like what you are doing? So, if I understand this, Live trace is taking the transparent area’s and making them white, right? But since it’s now a vector image, you should just be able to delete the white area’s.
Once you use Live Trace, go back to live trace and expand. This will make each section seperate and then you can delete the white area’s
or am I missing something?

First you need to understand the difference between Filters and effects. When you create a drop shadow with the filter, it’s making a drop shadow as it’s own element that you can not change. What the “Create Separate Shadow.” does, is it doesn’t link the shadow to the image so it can me moved, like it is it’s own object seperate object. Without that being checked, the object and shadow are linked.
When you create a drop shadow with an effect, that is an illustrator vector image that can be changed and modified (by using the appearance window). It will also have a transparent background, which I’m guesssing is what you want,

I assume your “saving to pdf”. If so, make sure you have you bleeds and mark on the the first dialog box that pops up
