It’s probably safest to right click and create archive – then it’s a zip file. Almost all OSX apps (nowadays) aren’t a single element but a ‘package’ which is the advantage of zipping it up.

To reinstall – drag the zip back, decompress. Launch. As long as your app store account matches the version, you should be good to go.

Generally, OSX is simpler (and getting easier) than Windows for install/uninstall.

Right now, most apps are just ‘drag and drop’ to install or ‘drag and trash’ to uninstall. They may leave behind preferences and/or application support (found in the Library of your computer.) Apps like AppZap and AppCleaner do a decent job of removing these remnants.

Most of the Pro video (Apple, Adobe, Avid) require sophisticated installers/uninstaller.

FCPx seems to install anything missing.

Starting in Lion will be a more intelligent uninstall.

Mostly for Premiere Pro here – Shouldn’t have to change the slots – I’d do everything ignoring the BM Card unless you’re talking ingest, output or CC/monitoring (but you’ll do that in DaVinci, right?) The rest of it should just work fine as is.

Two ways that you can do this.

Drag the Program Panel to it’s own separate window. Put it on display #2 – set it’s scale to 100%. Make sure your pause quality is full.

The other, I can’t recall if it sets the pixel correctly, is to select your sequence, Sequence Menu> Sequence Settings> Playback Settings… button, External Device > and set that to your other display.

If your image is in photoshop 1280×720 and your sequence is a 1280×720 (Prores) preset…it should match the full screen without any black bars.

Anamorphic doesn’t mean 16×9 – it means the pixels are shaped non square. If you have the anamorphic switch (or anything else other than square pixels) that would screw it up.

Call then back and ask them what would be most helpful.

Export to Squeeze (which is a QuickTime ref file) and then compress it into exactly what they need.

If at all possible try out the 5.5 update (yes, you’ll have to pay for it.) It handles AMA quite a bit better than v.4; For XDCam, if you’re going to transcode to DNxHD, any format higher than 100mbs (145 for example)

Under your Format setting, see if you can switch to one of the Thin Raster (TR) HD formats before you import.

What kind of files, what kind of system, which version of Media composer.

For example:
QuickTime, OSX 10.6.7 and MC 5.5.2.1

There won’t be any version that imports WMV files (for example).

You’ll need to login (and possibly create an account – but here is the download site.

It is important to note which version you have – do you have 5.1 of Xpress or XPress Pro (two different products.) Last, some software updates (even dot updates) had a fee based upgrade – make sure you read the notes before you install.
