Exporting To File On AVID MC5
Two specific questions (see bottom for more info).
Question 1) When I export to a file, which of the following options do you recommend that I select from the pull down menu in Avid MC5 ?
* Fast-Export Quick Time NTSC
* Make New – Quick Time Reference
* Quick Time Reference
* Quick Time Reference DV Codec
* Send To QT Movie
* Sorenson Squeeze
* Untitled
* Windows Image NTSCQuestion 2)
After I make the above selection, I then click on Options which opens another window with more options, so then which of these options should I select from the following pull down menu?>> “Export As”
* Quick Time Reference
* HDV
* DV Stream
* Quick Time Movie
* AVI
* Windows Media

As a newbie I have myriad questions, but for now I only need help with the above two questions. The resulting file will be 720P 59.94fps and of High Def broadcast quality so that I can send it to any media buyer that will then put it on HDCAM-SR or D5 for sending tapes (or the file) to various HD networks for airing. -

What is your editing codec? What is the final codec/file format you’re going for?
If you’re just exporting for DNxHD…
1. Send to QT movie
2. Export as Quicktime movie or same as source (if you cut DNx) -
Brendan, thank you. I didn’t know whether or not i’d get a response to my questions so I called up a media buyer and they answered my questions on the phone. You’re correct Brendan. He said exactly the answer you gave me.

Quick Time MovieThey’re even more flexible than that too because they will convert the file to whatever the networks need. But my thought was to send them a file that they don’t need to convert. I wanted them to have to do as little manipulating as possible.

Call then back and ask them what would be most helpful.
Export to Squeeze (which is a QuickTime ref file) and then compress it into exactly what they need.
