Not a known bug.

One more test for you to try: If you put an uncompressed QuickTime file, at the 2 gig mark it dies? Does it die on your HD or just off the DVD?

The path is relative as a relationship to the project.

If you had the project and media in one folder, and moved the folder, everything is RELATIVELY in the same places; final cut pro will have no reconnection problems. If you see the reconnect and deal with one file – and the structure of everything else has stayed the same, then everything will reconnect.

In your System Setup – FCP has prebuilt “Search Folders”. Target your folders that your copying your media to – this should help.

I will say, that if the end product is going through compressor, don’t sweat stuttered playback – all the frames will make it through the compression pipeline.

Open it in spotlight. Hold down the CMD key and click on the folder name in the top of the finder window. Where is the folder? Perhaps it was accidentally moved?

1- yup. But if your stuff is as slow moving as you say…it should be good.
2- You mentioned your were mixing all sorts of formats and sizes…what’s the sequence type in FCP – this could very well be part of your issue. Additionally, what method are you using to get from FCP to Compressor?

Crazy. I totally expected it to have a half dozen filters. Yeah, I get why the Gaussian Blur, but you’re right, TC ought to be there too.

Compressor? About 1/2 your cores. You can give it more, but I find it a diminishing return past that. Always leave one totally free no matter what.

Most MPEG-2 streams (especially for DVDs) are encoded at 4:2:0.
4 luma samples, and then 2 Chroma prime red and 0 Chroma prime blue on field 1.
4 luma samples, and then 0 Chroma prime red and 2 Chroma prime blue on field 2.

It interpolates the missing colors upwards/downwards.

4:2:2 closer matches video tape, and some playout servers want the more robust chroma information. If it’s unchecked, Compressor is making 4:2:0 MPEG-2 streams.

About your satellite transmission? Ask them the specifics of the MPEG-2 file they want.

Final Cut is optimized to work with some very precise settings – it just can’t handle ‘any’ video that’s thrown at it.

The general rule was: Match your Camera’s video type to the Sequence. When there was a mismatch, in the old days, you’d have to render.

Since then, FCP has improved, but it still works best when you have your video and sequence settings match. FCP out of the box, has it’s ‘easy setup’ for DV.

If the first clip that hit the timeline isn’t DV, FCP gives you the option to:
- Fix the sequence (pressing yes at that box)
- Adjust the clip to work in the current sequence (pressing no at that dialog box)

This only happens for the first clip. After the first clip is on the timeline, FCP assumes that ALL THE CLIPS will be that format and does whatever magic necessary to let other formats work.

Last, and most relevant to your issue: when you get the warning “Attention: This clip does not match this sequence’s settings or any of your sequence presets”, FCP is saying – “hey, this new video? It doesn’t match anything AT ALL that I’m optimized to work with.” Common formats are things like h.264 from an iPhone or Flip camera.

It’s because you’re changing the generator, not the ‘copy’ you put on the timeline.
The order should be: open generator, put on timeline, open FROM Timeline and now modify. If you do that order, 100% of the time it works.

Many people, open the generator, put it on the timeline – and NOTHING works, because they’re modifying the RAW generator, not the one in the timeline.

It’s a very common user confusion.
