I won’t put 2 + 2 together for you (on circumventing copy protection) but FairMount will let MPEG streamclip (or anything else) get to a decrypted DVD

You want a track matte.
V3 Top track – Clean video
v2 Generator – Oval or rectangle.
V1 bottom track – Blurred video

Set V3 to ‘Travel Matte Luma” and it will grab the ‘white’ area from track 2 and show you the parts of Track 3 that are white.
It will show you the parts of track 1 that are black.

You said the cameras, speed and size, but not the format (xdcam?)

GO under the ‘gear’ in the top right of log and capture; you can change your transcoding preferences there.

I’m cringing. I get a low budget concept. Why do all this to not spend about $1-2k more?
Basic CC? Sure, FCP 5 hasn’t really changed, if you’re not going to use color
XDCAM? Good in FCP6, a bit stronger in FCP7.
DVD glass master? Sure DVDSP will be fine; you’ll still need DVDAfter edit.
And FCS isn’t going to make a glass master for blu ray either; you’ll need DVDafter edit’s Blu ray cousin for that.

There are a bunch of items you can get: do you want a breakout box or a card?

The Adrenaline boxes will only work on media composer, sorry.

AJA: The I/O (firewire BOB that can move to different systems/laptops) or the Kona cards (macpro only)
Black Magic starts with the decklink and goes up to the Multibridge – all desktop/macpro only)
Matrox: the MXO (over DVI) or MXO2 LE or Full, PCI or PCI express (MacPro or 17″ MBP)

I should add – yes, you’re recompressing existing compressed material; but because the bitrate of ProRes 422 is wide enough, it won’t add significant damage to the h.264 footage.

Actually, the files are really really compressed as h.264 – going to prores permits FCP to behave far better and gives you more breathing room for graphics/generators/motion files.

Well, I have one of two ideas. First, look at XMLEdit. You might be able to build an action with it – no don’t ask me how; contact them.

Second, you could use Quickkeys to build a macro; something like:
Left arrow 15 frames, Match frame, Make freeze frames, mark 3 frames on timeline, overwrite.

That would work, but you’d have to figure out how many frames the beat is; and also you’d have to deal with the times where it shifts one frame earlier or less.

Convert the clips, the whole clips, put them in a folder structure that matches your existing one, label the folder something different. Then, use your existing sequence to media manage – Make Offline, ProRess 422 720 23.98 (or whatever speed). Then RELINK to your ProRes footage.

Similar method can be used to work at 1080.

Photo JPEG has a lower processor demand. H.264 looks just as good and produces a smaller file for the apple TV- and since it all streams, it’s not stored there (but the graphics card on the ATV2 is optimized for h.264 footage. So, I’d go with the h.264 (and try and figure out your luma shift problems.)
