  • Replacing timeline sequence footage with same footage in different codec

I started editing a bunch of H.264 footage in Final Cut and am having render issues (getting “codec error). I usually convert it to prores first but didn’t want to deal with it so now its bitting me in the ass

If I convert the footage is there any way I can get it to replace the clips that are already edited in the sequence? I shot on a DSLR so there is no timecode.

I also wonder if you could do this because my mac lags when I edit in 1280. Is it possible to edit the whole thing in 720 then somehow replace all that footage with the 1280 footage? Thanks.

Convert the clips, the whole clips, put them in a folder structure that matches your existing one, label the folder something different. Then, use your existing sequence to media manage – Make Offline, ProRess 422 720 23.98 (or whatever speed). Then RELINK to your ProRes footage.

Similar method can be used to work at 1080.
