Since the background is ‘white’ – you could try a gradient wipe and put the video clip into the gradient.
It won’t be a left to right wipe, but rather based on a gradient (each clip.) The brighter areas will dissolve first, darkest regions last.

If it’s EffectsLab pro from here…then about the only way you can get it to work with motion is by rendering out at a QuickTime Animation file (millions of colors + alpha) and motion will read the output just fine.

It sounds like an MPEG2 TransPort stream – TP instead of the more common TS. First, I’d try VLC player and see what happens.

Not with your exact footage.

I think what’s killing you is the export. You’re either exporting via ProRes (decent) or XDCAM.

Some thoughts:
First, don’t export. Use ‘send to.’ Exporting is forcing a render (first) and compression and THEN it goes to SD DVD. Just use the send to compressor choice.
Second: why not take 30-40 sec of the animation and process it (rather than the whole piece.) If you get that working…everyrthing else is secondary.
Third: go out of TBS as ProRes4444 or animation; both will produce giant files (that dont’ play so great) but will be closer to uncompressed.

Keep logs of what you do. Try those three. Also, tell us what settings you’re using in Compressor. One thing that will make a difference (but make the compression MUCH longer) is to change the compressor frame controls to improve the downconversion. Turn them on, change the resize to ‘best’ and the deinterlace to “Best”. Increase the anti-alias and the Details level.

By running 30 sec through (multiple times, multiple setups and settings) you can preview the results for much longer files.

MPEG 4, MPEG2, and WMV do not support alpha channels. What is HP@HL? h.264? Yeah, that doesn’t either.

The ONLY thing in that list is going to be a TIFF file – that supports an Alpha Channel.

I’d You’re going to have to call him and explain this to him.

What’s the “Device?” Why the Alpha channel?

Can’t be disappointed in MC – I have to be a defender here (keep in mind I’m a trainer ALSO on FCP amongst other things…) There’s something intrinsically wrong if it doesn’t work; Try importing; that sort of footage is native and should import very quickly.

DVCProHD was the first/second HD working in the MC world (version 1.0 or 2.0 of this release cycle) – somewhere around 2004-5.

When you can, message back. Oh, if you want, I can give you a place to upload that clip to see if I have the same sync problems.

Paul – sorry – took me a bit to find specific 1080i DVCPro HD footage

Here’s what I learned: With AMA, the timeline is sensitive to the format ONLY WHEN it hits the timeline.

When I have the avid format set to 1080 29.97 – (which is ONLY Progressive) anything non progressive (not full 1080) gets a motion adapter. Switching back and forth? The Motion adapter stays.

When I have the Avid’s Format set to 1080i 59.94, the items come in fine – no motion adapter.

It’s 100% repeatable (and makes sense.)

If you’re working in a progressive format, a motion adapter may be needed to reintegrated interlaced material. Once on the timeline, avid doesn’t ever remove it.
When you’re working in an interlaced format, it takes your interlaced material when it hits the timeline, and leaves it alone.

FCP does quite a bit of ‘under the hood’ stuff to get items to display – they’re not always at their best quality.

Sequence Menu> Settings >
•Render control tab, change the motion project quality to Normal.

That should fix it….but if not…Let’s just ‘turn everything on’

•VIdeo Processing tab, switch the Motion Filtering Quality (the motion tab) to Best
•Change the Codec from XDCam to ProRes 422
