Hey guys, I’m hoping this is an obvious one — I can’t figure it out.

I’ve created a simple animated text in Motion 4.0. It plays great.

Then when I bring it into FCP, it loses its ‘outline’. The outline on the text, that is.

If I create a QT using the Animation codec, lossless+alpha, it imports properly into FCP, but is missing the text outline.

If I bring it in directly from the motion file (without creating a QT), it actually looks perfect BEFORE I render. But when I render, I lose the text outline. How could rendering possibly cause this to happen?

I’ve tried tinkering with every render setting/codec in FCP. I think it’s a problem coming out of Motion. And to be clear, this isn’t an issue of low-quality rendering, but rather a strange situation in which only the text ‘outline’ is completely erased upon render.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
    Nick

Any reason you’re not dropping the .motn Motion project into FCP directly?

Could be a corrupt font or a font that is only in User and not in root – check FontBook.

Hey thanks for the quick response. I actually am bringing the Motion file directly into FCP. (sorry if that wasn’t clear.) And I’ve also tried exporting to QT first and importing that into FCP. Same problem either way.

I haven’t checked fontbook — do you mind explaining how I would go about checking something like that? The font is Playbill, if that matters.

    Thanks!

Launch the FontBook application and check to see if the font is installed at the system level.

Yeah it is installed… I tried some other fonts, and it had the same issue. It’s only “outline” (drop shadow, for example, works fine). Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Nick

Applications>Font book (yeah, it’s been there for years.)

Then run the first aid in the File menu…

Yeah it’s definitely not a font problem. Is there a way in Motion to “flatten” the image without making a QT (like merging layers in photoshop)? Maybe I can solve it that way?

Hello Nick, is there a way you can post the motion file so we can see the problem first hand.

    Thank you.
