March 17, 2011 at 12:52 am in reply to: Sound is coming out of left speaker and right speaker alternately.Unless you’re doing surround sound (which is really mixed in STP), then I’d suggest for a given scene:
Leave music in stereo.
If any ambient added sound is stereo, leave it stereo.
If any spotted SFX comes from a specific spot on screen, then adjust accordingly screen L or R (partially)
I usually have talent ‘heavy’ in a speaker, depending on screen directly (but far, far from full. Just nudged.)Best,

But proxy the video with stills until you’re ready for your final render. Maybe 1 still per second or two.

March 17, 2011 at 12:46 am in reply to: HDV deck connection error/”DV device not responding to normal commands”It sounds like the problem is with the deck – but you’ve tried another system. If you think the problem is version 5, then I’d install the OS + 4.0 on an external drive and test the deck. Should take less than an hour to do the install and test.

Take everything out of the box. Go buy a intel MacPro. Take everything out of that and put it in the G5 box.

March 17, 2011 at 12:04 am in reply to: Quality issues with animation using Compressor in creation of SD DVDI’m enjoying this puzzle (sorry, I’m sure you’re not!)
Hey, as long as your running tests, how about generating an uncompressed QuickTime out TBS at 720×480 (not 486) and then punching that through compressor (let’s take FCP out of the picture and see what happens.)
Totally willing to throw the video through my toolset here.

trash the settings. It’s odd and not a bug I’ve ever heard of.
Try opening a template too.

Could you have had two projects open…and the sequence is in the wrong project?

I actually got this to work when I stuck it in a normal HDV timeline – try that. It was 1080i (1440×1080) and FCP automatically downconverted it for me to a sony DSR 40 deck.
Try different flavors of your sequence.
I think it’ll work at 1080 but not as sure at 720.
Last, make sure your codec is HDV.

Paul, I’d love to see if I had the same issue with one of the files. If you want to put them up somewhere, I’d be happy to test them in my system.
