HDV deck connection error/”DV device not responding to normal commands”
Running Avid Media Composer 5, on “Nehalem” Dual Quad Core Mac Pros, OS 10.6.
Got a 2-3+ year old Sony HVR M15U deck that I’ve used to capture both HDV/Dvcam footage with my Avid MC, as well as use as a scratch Dvcam recorder. But lately, when I launch the Avid app – with the the deck connected to old analog Mojo via Firewire/1394 – I get this message, before I even get the prompt to pick my project/user settings:
“DV device is not responding to normal commands.
Please check the DV device to insure that it is functioning properly.
You may need to power cycle or unplug the device.
Error/Status [0x80000043]”When I hit OK button, error prompt reappears, forcing me to force quit.
I’ve of course cycled it on and off. And still get the same issue. Deck seems to play and record fine (independently of the Avid app.) Actually have 2 Avid systems, and get the same error message with both. In fact, my super ancient Sony DSR-11 DV/DVcam deck is still plugging along fine – it works perfectly fine as a capture deck, with same workflow: 1394 connection to analog Mojo to Mac Pro, using MC5.
Again, this issue with the HDV deck has only popped up recently – I’ve been happily capturing with this deck for the last several years and after a relatively recent upgrade to Media Composer 5.
Any clues? Rather not send to Sony for diagnosis/service.
Nick.
