Yes. I that is what I did.

I exported the SERIF MOVIEPLUS project to 15 minute files and then imported them into SONY MOVIE STUDIO.

I just finished transferring all my original source clips to my external D drive.

I opened up MOVIE STUDIO just now – looks like all the footage is in there.

I’m going try to edit now and see what happens.

Now my internal c drive is, “only” 61% full instead of 80%

I was going to ask of 8 GB of ram is enough but another poster -just posted the same issue (above) saying he went to 16 gb of ram and is still having the same problem so should 8 gb be ok?

I have to check my video card make sure it’s compatible but it should be.

Any idea why it keep crashing?

I am a total novice, this is my first project ever but I think the 80% full hard drive might be the problem?

With Serif Movieplus that I had been using, the program pulls the clips off of the hard drive, they are not stored in the software program until the point were you export them to a file.

So I already exported my project to files on my internal c drive and therefore (I’m guessing?) can take the actual clips stored on my internal c drive (as opposed to the files I created when I exported the project) and transfer them to an external drive as they should not be needed as I saved the project to the files that are stored on my internal C drive. That way I can get my internal C drive space freed up.

Am I right about this? I am just guessing.

    Thanks for any help!

    Yes – I understand now.

    Thanks.

That is good news as like I said I have not added any titles or overlays etc to the project while in Serif Movieplus.

    So that is great.

    Got it.

    Thanks!

Oh wow thanks a million! I almost was not going to ask again.

That makes my day that I can still cut the clips up.

I did misunderstand what others said.

Being as I have no text or other things such as you described in my project that is currently in SERIF MOVIEPLUS it will not be a problem!

Now, I don’t have to re-edit the entire project in Movie Studio 13 but will just export Serif Movieplus in 15 minute files and then load them into MOVIE STUDIO 13 and once in there I can add the titles and the narration.

But it’s good that I cans still cut and edit the clips as I have a little bit of that left to do.

    Thanks!

I purchased the Sony Movie Studio 13 suite! Awesome I was blown away by the other programs that make up the suite.

I watched some of the Movie Studio tutorials so I can start using it.

I don’t doubt that what the experts here like John tell me but I am just curious about something.

Now, I am being told that I can import my files from Serif Movieplus into Movie Studio 13 but that I won’t be able to remove anything.

Again, I am sure you all are right but then I guess you are saying once I import files that were exported from the SERIF Movieplus if I go to use the split or cut feature in MOVIE STUDIO it just won’t function? Uh yea that is what you are saying so I guess I just need to get my mind around it.

Of course, I will see first hand once I import the files but I haven’t done that yet.

Thanks for all of the help!

  • Wow maybe that is the problem.

The external drives are connected to 3.0 USB ports I (I have 2 3.0 ports, 64 bit Lenovo Thinkpad) but regardless if you are saying it splits the power then that could well be the problem.

AS it was explained to me by SERIF – MOVIE PLUS is only 32 bit software and so it limits the amount of GB’S available to process the export to only 2.5 and with large files, that causes exports to fail.

I have a 64 bit i7 quadcore but SERIF said it does not matter my computer has more resources than what Serif can even use as the 32 bit MOVIE PLUS limits.

Also SERIF told me that it’s important for the files to be contiguous so that the editing program can catch enough data. So w 2 drives not only is the power split (I didn’t know that till you told me) but also pulling from 2 external drives SERIF is prob just not grabbing enough data all together. Least ways that’s the way someone explained it to me but now hearing that the power (data transfer rate is what I mean) is split – that might be the problem.

Yes – I plan to transfer the files so that I only have one external drive running.

Also a Microsoft tech is going to help me get the files contiguous. However that is done – least ways I hope the tech knows how to do that but he’s a level 3 tech so he should.

Wow thanks for the info this really helps.

I’ll post what the results are!

OK that sounds good. I really appreciate everyone’s help here.

I may have mentioned this before but I am a novice.

Well – i filmed this project and edited it for 3 years but only part time and there were long stretches where I had no time to work on it.

None-the-less it’s been 3 years in the making.

I think I will try exporting the small segments of 15-20 minutes and then uploading to SONY.

That’s good to know that I can’t take things out once I export the small segments.

I have one more thing I can try w the SERIF but regardless it will prob be much less hassle in the long run to go to the SONY software.

Wow thanks for mentioning that and reminding me.

I had thought about doing that before but then someone at the SERIF MOVIPLUS forum said they were not sure if it would work w the SONY software.

Then, I forgot about that strategy until you two just mentioned it so thanks for reminding me.

So I guess then as long as can export say 15 – 20 minute segments to a file, the SONY software will be ok i.e. it will allow me to import those files into the SONY software?

Am I correct to assume that I will also be able to add sound and edit everything?

My video project is mostly edited already but I still need some additional editing and also need to ad the sound.

I guess I can find out by trying it.

I downloaded the trial version but might as well go ahead and purchase it.

    Thanks!

It depends on luck of the draw. The Serif Movieplus technicians are admitting that lots of people can’t export the HD.

Yesterday the tech admitted this freely.

So I said well what do other people do when they can’t export?

He literally said, “buy a 64 bit software.”

There are also many people making this complaint in the company forums.

As you prob know HD is heavy on resources but the MOVIEPLUS is only 32 bit software so even if someone has a 64 bit computer (I have a i7 quadcore 64 bit) it is limited to only 2.5 gb when exporting and therein lies the problem.

Now I am a novice but the advertising and company (Serif) are emphatic that is is good for use w HDef. so I had no way of knowing this starting out as Serif only tells you this when your export fails.

So I said to the tech well how come some people can export and others can’t and he was talking about how the files are stored if they are contiguous and if not that the program can’t grab enough data as it’s only 32 bit something about 1 gb but basically he said it just depends on how your files are stacked up on your computer.

He said THEY DON’T HELP WITH THAT but suggested I try it.

I will work with a microsoft level 3 tech later today to see if we can re-arrange the files.

So end result, is they defraud half of the people as only some are able to export and they are only able to export small files of not long duration and preferably not HD.

I am actually going to contact the President of the company about what I feel is fraudulent and post on the internet so others are aware.

    OK thanks – that helps.

by the way, I have serif MOVIEPLUS now. Worked on a project for 3 years – although just part time – only to find out MOVIEPLUS CAN’T EXPORT!!!!

I am not making that up. Avoid it like the plague. I mean serioiusly, 3 years of work only to find out it does not export.

I never tried to export in the 3 years as my project was not finished so there would be no need to export it.

They are the worst JUST SAY NO TO SERIF MOVIEPLUS!!!
